May 7, 2012 (Lakeside) 4:46 p.m. – A domestic violence suspect who barricaded himself into a home in Lakeside has been arrested and taken by ambulance to a hospital moments ago, ECM has learned.

“SWAT officers went in and arrested him,” Sgt. Tom Poulin with the Sheriff’s substation in Santee informed ECM.

Kenny Lee Walker, 45, will be charged with domestic violence after reportedly slashing tires on his wife’s car.  His wife was able to escape the home before Walker barricaded himself inside the home on Lakeshore Drive this morning, threatening to shoot law enforcement officers, then kill himself.

Neighbors described him as a "schizophrenic" who may have missed medications.  They viewed as "a very dangerous person."

According to the neighbors, the suspect had been distraught because his brother committed suicide three weeks ago. In addition, he had been evicted from the home and his wife had obtained a restraining order, neighbors told ECM.

SWAT team members surrounded the home and secured the area.  A robot was sent in before officers approached the home, shields raised.

No shots were heard, according to witnesses. Sgt. Poulin confirmed that officers did not shoot.

The suspect was found inside with injuries to his chest from a self-inflicted stab wound, a Sheriff's media release states.

Lindo Lake Elementary School was placed on lockdown earlier today and students were also prevented from leaving El Capitan High School during the incident.  Neighboring homes and portions of Lindo Lake park were evacuated.
