November 16, 2016  (Casa De Oro) - Thoroughly Modern Millie is based on the book by Richard Morris and Dick Scanlin, as well as the 1967 movie of the same name. The musical debuted at The La Jolla Playhouse in 2000.

Tippity tap, Tippity tap went the feet of Millie and the ensemble several time during the show. This is a fabulous play if you love tap.

Yes, Young Actors Theatre needs your support.. Ten more patrons would do wonders. If you aren't comfortable going out to high schools, YAT is a nice easy drive off State Route 94; take the Kenwood exit north a block to the end, then a short walk into Encore Theatre. Consider supporting one show a year with tickets or donate to a theatre once a year.

Thoroughly Modern Millie is the YAT production for older students. They even give the college kids an opportunity to have someplace to act. No matter what the ages, this show is a fun, professional version from seasoned talent.

The plot of this musical is small town girl Millie Dillmunt escapes Salina Kansas and comes to New York. She considers herself a modern woman. She does not need love. She plans to get a job in a steno pool and marry her rich boss. Living in a small hotel for woman where they keep disapperaing she becomes enraptured in solving the mystery, all while falling in love.

Mary Rose Vadeboncoeur played a tall awkward Millie, winning he heart of the audience. Jeremiah Deina as Jimmy Smith brought romance to the show. Maggie Glen played the sweet little blonde. Maggie Cole was a favorite as Mrs Meers. Joec Dionisio and Marisa Cabading played the Chinese brothers the audience always love and they did a fantastic job. Marilyn Wallace shone as Muzzy. The rest of the cast with their multiple parts and ensemble worked superbly.

My favorite scene, when the steno group taps in their chairs, is not your typical tap scene and was impeccably done, Thank you for the tap scenes Holly Rone, Choreographer.

The music from show includes Pastiche (intimates the style of something else). Forget About the Boy, With the Stone Girls and Millie. Almost forgot the impressive acting by Astrid Pett as Miss Flannery. My favorite costume by Elise Pett was Muzzy's red/ maroon dress. It was a perfect choice which sparkled in the lights. Pett did a great job with several sparkling dresses, adding dimension tp the show.

If you want to enjoy the show it will continue on the 17, 18, and 18 at 7:00 p.m. and 19, 20, 2016 at the Encore Theatre Casa De Oro, Spring Valley on Campo Road.
