August 1, 2023 (Warner Springs) – A 16-year-old skateboarder from Warner Springs has died after being struck by a vehicle last night on State Route 79.

The teen was riding a skateboard north in the southbound lane of State Route 79 just north of Peralta Drive around 8:05 p.m. when he was struck by a grey Mitsubishi driven by a 74-year-old Warner Springs man who was driving southbound on  highway.

“The driver of the Mitsubishi was unable to avoid the skateboarder and the Mitsubishi struck the skateboarder, causing life threatening injuries.  The skateboarder was transported to Inland Valley Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries,” says Officer Jared Grieshaber with the California Highway Patrol.

The Mitsubishi driver and his passenger, a 70-year-old Warner Springs woman, were not injured.

This is an ongoing investigation.  The preliminary investigation revealed alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash, says Officer Grieshaber.

The identity of the deceased will be released through the Riverside Medical Examiner’s Office.
