September 18, 2019 (Rancho San Diego) – A sell-out crowd turned out for our inaugural Movers, Shakers and Newsmakers event held at the Heritage of the Americas Museum on August 29th, enjoying a summer’s eve reception on the patio followed by a newsworthy array of speakers.

Daniel O’Sullivan from Sullivan Solar, our major sponsor of the event, shared tips on how to take advantage of a huge tax credit set to expire soon, as well as increased efficiencies and trends in solar energy.

Jim Price from the Pacific Southwest Railway Association’s foundation gave a fascinating slide presentation on the building of the “impossible railway” through East County’s rugged terrain a preview of the centennial year’s culminating event in November.

Barry Jantz provided the latest updates on the Cottonwood Sand Mine project proposed along the Sweetwater River.

Christina Whipple, a property owner who recently received a non-renewal on her fire insurance along with thousands of other Californians, gave tips to homeowners on how to find alternative coverage and more steps to take.

ECM Associate Editor Paul Kruze and editor Miriam Raftery gave highlights of some of the top stories they’ve been covering, from the grand opening of the Magnolia performing arts center to community choice energy options coming soon for East County residents, as well as the saga of Julian’s firefighters and open government issues involving the Cajon Valley Union School District.

Paul Nichols and Cindy Burnham entertained our guests with their fabulous singing and guitar music during the reception.

San Pasqual Winery provided tastes of their wonderful wines.  Giardino Nieghborhood Cucina, Crafted Greens, Press Box Sports Lounge and Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt donated delicious foods for all to savor. We also raffled off numerous prizes, much to the delight of the lucky winners.

Heritage of the Americas Museum provided free tours of their amazing facility, which features artwork, archaeology, natural history and anthropology exhibits.

We also had some local luminaries stop to mix and mingle at our festivities including Poway Mayor and Supervisorial  candidate Steve Vaus (photo, left), Santee Councilman Ron Hall, and 50th Congressional district candidate Helen Horvath (photo, below right).

We thank everyone who helped make our event a success – and we hope to offer more Movers, Shakers and Newsmakers events in the near future.
