THIRD ANNUAL “SUSTAIN LA MESA” ENVIRONMENTAL FESTIVAL OCTOBER 9TH

September 30, 2010 (La Mesa) -- The Environmental Sustainability Commission is holding the third annual “Sustain La Mesa” Environmental Festival on Saturday, October 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Harry Griffen Park, 9550 Milden Street, La Mesa, 91942.This year's festival will feature over 30 booths and exhibits as well as expert speakers and activities for all ages.

 

Free info will be available on hydroponic gardening, solar ovens, electric cars, urban trees, xeriscape landscaping, energy efficiency and other environmental topics. Expert speakers, free drawings, and family entertainment will include Ms. Smarty-Plants, the Clown Conspiracy with face painting, and winners of a student art and literacy contest. Interactive exhibits will feature kids’ activities, an electric car display, solar-powered equipment, and EDCO’s mini recycling truck.

 

Special features at the festival will include an SDG&E free light bulb exchange where residential customers can bring up to five incandescent light bulbs and two halogen fixtures (bring entire floor or table lamp) to exchange for the same number of ENERGY STAR® qualified compact fluorescent lights.

 

There will also be an all-inclusive recycling zone for electronics, all plastics including shrink wrap and bags, clean formed Styrofoam, metals and glass. No hazardous waste, tape, or labels please. Speakers throughout the day will cover topics of water conservation, fruit trees, commuting, hydroponics and more.
