December 30, 2009 (El Cajon)--Toyota of El Cajon has been honored for ethical business practices by the San Diego Better Business Bureau (BBB), San Diego's largest county wide business organization. The local auto dealership managed by brothers Gary and Greg Kaminsky was selected as a winner of a 2009 BBB Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics in the 100-to-249 employee category. In all, 20 companies from throughout San Diego County were recently honored by the BBB either as a winner or finalist of a 2009 Torch Award, and Toyota of El Cajon was the only East County-based business to be honored.

Now in its twelfth, the Torch Awards is the BBB's annual awards program that honors outstanding local for profit companies and non profit charitable organizations that have demonstrated a commitment to ethical business practices, both in operations and in terms of being ethical, reliable and responsive to employees, vendors and customers, according to Sheryl Bilbrey, San Diego BBB president and CEO.

“Consumers want to do business with ethical companies, and our Torch Awards is one way to identify companies that maintain a competitive advantage by adhering to BBB ethical standards,” said Bilbrey. “The Torch Awards is the way San Diego annually rewards and celebrates ethical business practices in our marketplace.”

In addition to Toyota of El Cajon, other 2009 Torch Award winners included (categories were based on number of employees which appear in parenthesis): ALM Window & Door Inc. of National City (one to four); Dream Design Builders of Rancho Bernardo (five to 10); Jackson Design and Remodeling of San Diego (11 to 24); Action Air Conditioning and Heating of San Marcos (25 to 99); Barney & Barney LLC (250 to 499); San Diego County Credit Union (500-plus); and, Girl Scouts, San Diego Imperial Council (charity/non profit category).

Each year, thousands of U.S. businesses are entered in local Torch Award competitions conducted by BBBs in every region of the country. Winning entries from the San Diego competition will be forwarded to the Council of Better Business Bureaus, the parent organization for the BBB network, for an international competition. Sempra Energy was the presenting sponsor of the 2009 Torch Awards for Marketplace Ethics.
