TWO STATE ASSEMBLY RACES GETTING TIGHTER

March 8, 2024 (East County) – Tonight’s update from the Registrar of Voters is showing the race for second place getting narrower in two East County State Assembly districts..

The race between Kevin Juza, a business consultant who is the Democratic Party’s endorsed candidate and Hayes, a Lakeside school board member and long-time aid to legislators Brian Jones and Joel Anderson in the 75th District has narrowed from Juza having 19.02% and Hayes having 16.28% to Juza having 18.59% And Hayes  with 17.83% of the counted votes this evening. Carl DeMaio is in first place with 43.47% of the votes.

In the 79th State Assembly District, educator Dr. Lashae Sharp-Collins is gaining traction for second against Mayor of Lemon Grove, Racquel Vasquez. Vasquez was previously at 31.53%, while Sharp-Collins had 27.43% of the vote. After todays update, Vasquez has 30.63% with Sharp-Collins now at 29.18. La Mesa Councilman Colin Parent has a hefty lead, with 40.19%, slightly down from 41.04 previously.

There are an estimated total of 139,000 votes still not tallied countywide, but those ballots are not all from these two districts.
