January 6, 2016 (El Cajon) — A man in his 30s, whose identity is not known, suffered major life-threatening injuries last night when he was struck by a Nissan Pathfinder while crossing a street at Marshall and Arnele Avenues last night at 6:39 p.m.

“Preliminary evidence and witness statements indicate the pedestrian had been struck by the vehicle as he attempted to cross the street against a red light,” said Lieutenant R. Soulard.

The victim was transported to a local trauma center. He was wearing dark colored clothing and it was raining at the time of the collision.

The driver of the Nissan Pathfinder, a woman in her 30's, remained at the scene and has been fully cooperative in this investigation, Lt. Soulard indicated. Neither alcohol nor speed appear to be factors in this collision.

Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the El Cajon Police Department at 619-579-3311.

Police remind those walking after dark or during rainy weather to always wear bright or reflective clothing, and to cross the street at controlled intersections with marked cross-walks and traffic control signals. Don't step out into the roadway until you are certain that traffic has seen you and has come to a complete stop.

For commuters driving in hours of reduced lighting or inclement weather, please allow for more reaction time due to decreased visibility.
