VIEJAS TRIBE DONATES $50,000 TO POLICE OFFICERS ASSOCIATION

Widows & Orphans Fund to receive $50,000 from Viejas Tribe

September 3, 2016 (Alpine) -- The Viejas Tribe, represented by Tribal Chairman Robert Welch Jr., presente a $50,000 donation to the San Diego Police Officers Association on August 29. Brian Marvel, President of the Police Officers Association, received the donation at San Diego Police Department’s headquarters, accompanied by San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and San Diego Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman.

“The Viejas Tribe is proud to support the Police Officers Association and believes in their mission of healing and caring for the families that have lost loved ones in the line of duty.”

The donation, specifically focused towards the Widows and Orphans Fund, is intended to honor the service of those who have sacrificed all and to provide support to their families. Chairman Welch stated, “The Viejas Tribe is proud to support the Police Officers Association and believes in their mission of healing and caring for the families that have lost loved ones in the line of duty.”

The Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians, one of the remaining 12 bands of the Kumeyaay Indian Nation, resides on a 1,600-acre reservation in the Viejas Valley, east of the community of Alpine in San Diego County, California. The Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians is a sovereign governmental jurisdiction over its land and Tribal Members. The Viejas Band has a “trust” relationship with the federal government, enforces federal laws, and participates in issues relating to its land and people, on a government-to-government basis. Their financial and in-kind donations are among the many ways the Tribal Members give back and share in projects and activities to improve the lives of all San Diegans,
