April 5, 2016 (Houston) - If no one knew where Villanova is before last night, they do now.

It’s a private Catholic university located in Radnor Township, a suburb northwest of Philadelphia.  As of 2014, it has a 49% acceptance rate.  It’s a small school, only about 10,700 students.  It’s a middle school compared to somewhere like San Diego State.

But thanks to Kris Jenkins, that acceptance rate is probably about to be filled with aspiring college basketball players.

Last night, Jenkins hit a buzzer beating three pointer in the fourth quarter with the score 74-74 to defeat one of the best college basketball programs in the country (besides Duke and Kentucky) 77-74 and a number one seed.

North Carolina’s Marcus Paige had just hit a three pointer and the Tarheels had come back from a 10-point deficit.  The Wildcats knew what they had to do.  Senior Ryan Arcidiacono ran up the floor and passed to Jenkins, who hit the three to give Nova their first NCAA championship in 31 years.

It was the first buzzer beating shot to win a title since Lorenzo Charles’ dunk for North Carolina State in 1983 and the first to end on a buzzer beating three pointer.

The Wildcats hadn’t been to the Final Four since 2009, but clearly, they didn’t disappoint for their first appearance in seven years.
