The definitive tool for making school decisions for children in grades K-12 throughout San Diego County

March 4, 2024 (San Diego) – Voice of San Diego is proud to announce the publication of the 2024 edition of A Parent’s Guide to San Diego Schools. This is the sixth year of the publication, which provides parents and guardians with the tools to make informed decisions about education options for their children.

This year the guide includes articles about school choice opportunities and enrollment deadlines, individualized education programs, after-school care options, school performance data in an easy-to-use format, and much more. Every school in San Diego County is listed with all available performance data, from test scores to chronic absenteeism.

The guide again includes a special metric of school performance in relation to poverty. In collaboration with the UC San Diego Extended Studies Center for Research and Evaluation we developed an index of how well schools performed above or below what they would be expected given the level of poverty of their students. It provides a remarkable window into schools overperforming their circumstances and those that are underperforming.

Published in English and Spanish, free copies are available through local public libraries, social service organizations and local preschools. See our website for a full list of distribution partners. It is also available electronically at https://www.voiceofsandiego.org/schools-guide/.

The guide was designed to:
  • Make it easier to understand options. The guide helps families in the San Diego community find the right schools for their children
  • Compare schools to make better choices. Get answers and easy explanations.
  • Expand the conversation about public education in the San Diego region.
