September 18, 2009 (San Diego’s East County) – We’re proud to announce that our server is now powered 100% by wind energy. Since our online publication is already paperless and green, we’re definitely the most eco-friendly news publication in town!

Did you know that nearly 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. are produced by the paper industry—the fourth largest industrial source of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions?  America’s newspaper business consumes 95 million trees each year, many from old-growth forests. Scientists estimate that deforestation is responsible for 25% of human-caused greenhouse gases. http://www.greenpressinitiative.org/about/faq.htm  But wait--there's more...

We’re clean and green—killing no trees to produce our online publication. We don’t use any energy to run printing presses, either, since our articles are all on the Internet. Plus by distributing East County Magazine entirely online, we also save on energy used to transport and delivery printed newspapers and magazines. One click on a computer keyboard can deliver our publication to many thousands of readers instantly!

Now the server that powers our website, StartLogic, has gone green, too. The company’s offices and data centers are now 100% powered by wind energy. Since generating enough wind energy onsite wasn’t feasible, StartLogic has decided to offset its electricity usage with wind-generated Renewable Energy Certificates, which prevent the release of 2,660 metric tons of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere each year. That’s the environmental equivalent of planting 2,390 acres of trees, not driving 6.1 million miles, or removing 510 cars from the road. Read more at http://www.startlogic.com/green/index.bml
