June 9, 2012 (Lakeside)-- The Victorian Roses Ladies Riding Society will hold a Wild West Casino Night fundraiser on June 9 at the Lakeside Rodeo Grounds. Proceeds will benefit Saving Horses Inc., an East San Diego County horse rescue organization.

The two charities have come together, and with the sponsorship of Sycuan Casino, have organized a themed gala event that will include live music, food, beer & wine, fun gaming tables, a “Wanted Poster” photo booth, raffle prizes, a silent auction & more.

For the $20/person ticket price, guests will receive admittance plus $200 in play poker chips. The blackjack, roulette & craps tables will be open for three hours after which the poker chips can be exchanged for raffle tickets. Guests are encouraged but not required to come in a Wild West costume and will receive a free raffle ticket if they do so. Available for purchase are commemorative, refillable beer & wine glasses as well as food catered by the Descanso Junction restaurant. Budweiser & Hacienda de las Rosas Winery have both generously donated to this event.

The Victorian Roses Ladies Riding Society is a 501c3 re-enactment group that originated in 2008 locally in San Diego. They currently ride horses in about 10 Southern California parades including the internationally televised Tournament of Roses Parade.  Striving to be a prestigious and professional parade group, the members are well versed in historical costuming as well as being avid equestrians. All the “costumes” are custom made, one-of-a-kind originals and are designed and sewn by the members. Each period-accurate gown represents the color of a rose and can take as many as 50 hours to complete. The mission of the Victorian Roses is to present living history and to educate the public on aspects of the Victorian Era, specifically the 1880’s, through parades and other public appearances.

The Victorian Roses proudly sponsors Saving Horses Inc., a local San Diego non-profit organization that actively rescues horses from slaughter, abandonment and abuse, rehabilitates them for adoption or offers them a permanent retirement.  More information about this cause can be found at www.savinghorsesinc.com.

“My parade horse came from a rescue situation,” said Dyan Paquette, VRLRS co-founder. “Since the economic downturn, horses are a luxury most can no longer afford to feed or properly care for and abandonment is happening all over. Since horses are the backbone of our club, The Victorian Roses feel this charity is one we can really stand behind.”

Tickets are on sale online and through club members. The club is currently seeking raffle prize and silent auction donations. For a $200 donation in items or cash, the donator will be given 2 free tickets to the event (a $40 value). Please see the the Victorian Roses website, www.victorianroses.org for more information. They can be found on Facebook as well.
