October 4, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) – A cold front from Alaska will bring unseasonably chilly temperatures along with rain, possible thunderstorms and strong winds. A wind advisory has been issued for East County mountain and desert areas from 1 p.m. Wednesday to 4 a.m. Thursday, when sustained southwest winds of 25 to 35 miles per hour (mph) and gusts up to 55 mph are forecast. Snow is possible at higher elevations.

“This weather could be deadly for unprepared campers or hikers,” the National Weather Service advises. In addition, drivers should use caution and be watchful for slippery roads, fog in mountain areas, and blowing sand in the deserts. High-profile vehicles in particular should use caution in windy areas.

Rain is forecast for tomorrow afternoon with thunderstorms possible late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning. Unseasonably cold weather is expected to continue through Thursday, possibly setting new records for low temperatures.

Fair and warmer weather is expected to return on Friday, however, in time for the weekend.
