WOMAN FIGHTS OFF PURSE SNATCHER OUTSIDE MARKET IN LA MESA

January 24, 2011 (La Mesa) -- On Friday around 8:55 p.m., La Mesa Police officers responded to a report of a robbery at Henry’s Market, 4630 Palm Avenue. A 52-year-old woman who was walking from the store to her vehicle was confronted in the parking lot by a suspect who reportedly grabbed the purse on her shoulder. The victim refused to let go of her purse and was dragged to the ground in a struggle, got up and punched the suspect several times in the face.

 

The suspect, a black teen, responded by punching the victim under her chin. As the struggle continued, a witness was alerted to the fight and began walking towards them. The suspect let go of the purse and was last seen walking away south on Palm Avenue with two other black males.

 

The victim had a complaint of pain to her neck, chin, left thumb, right elbow, and right knee. She refused medical treatment at the scene.

 

The suspect is described as a light skinned black male, 17-18 years, 5’-6”, 120 pounds, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and dark pants. His associates are described as follows:

 

1) Black male, 17-19 years, 5’-8”, 140 pounds, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.
2) Black male, 15-16 years, small build, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.
