December 21, 2010 (La Mesa)—La Mesa Police Department responded to a robbery near the Jack in the Box restaurant located at 6987 University Av., La Mesa around 5:20 p.m. today. According to police, three juveniles approached a 16-year-old and demanded his cell phone. One suspect grabbed the victim’s phone while the other two kicked and punched him. The victim had abrasions and some bruising from the incident.

December 21, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) – Dangerous conditions are forecast for tonight and tomorrow, as heavy thunderstorms are slated to move into our already water-soaked region, dropping 1-2 inches of rain per hour. Flash flood watches and warnings remain in effect across San Diego County.
December 21, 2010 (Santee) – David Dickinson, 47, was driving a motorcycle Saturday, December 18 on Cuyamaca Street at Prospect in the unincorporated area of Santee when he was struck from behind by another vehicle traveling approximately 80-90 miles per hour. He was taken by ambulance to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he died the next day, December 19.
December 21, 2010 (Alpine)—Anthony Pico has been elected chairman of the Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians, replacing Bobby Barrett, who served five terms and chose not to run for reelection. Pico previously served as chairman for three terms and vice chairman for two terms, a total of more than two decades of leadership.
“Under his stewardship and vision, the Viejas Band achieved national and state recognition for its economic and social progress,” California Indian Education’s website states. During his prior tenure as Chairman, Viejas proved a leader in promoting inter-tribal business ventures as well as economic development for the tribe locally.

December 21, 2010 (San Diego) 9:15 a.m.--The flood watch issued yesterday has been upgraded to a flood warning for the San Diego River. In addition, many roadways are flooded and there are accidents on numerous streets and highways. Below are details on several of the most recent and severe:

December 21, 2010 (Mt. Palomar) – Heavy rains and high winds have caused numerous rock slides, mud slides and downed trees during tonight’s storm on Palomar Mountain, Fire Chief George E. Lucia reports. “The South Grade Road access was closed twice to traffic due to rocks and trees,” he added.
Palomar Mountain’s Volunteer Fire Department is working around the clock with the San Diego County Road Department, State Parks, Cleveland National Forest and CHP to keep the roadway open and free of rocks and debris. The Palomar Mountain Volunteer Fire Department CERT team was also activated to assist local residents and firefighters during this severe weather.
Several roads closed December 20, 2010 (San Diego)—The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for all of San Diego County through Wednesday afternoon. Rainfall rates of more than an inch per hour are possible, particularly in the mountains.
“A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation,” the National Weather Service warns.
December 20, 2010 – Jorge M. Gutierrez has been convicted of attempted murder for shooting Javier Carillo, over four years ago during an attempted robbery in Spring Valley. Carillo suffered serious injuries to his lower torso when he was shot in March 2006 in the 900 block of Harness Street in Spring Valley. The victim was in and out of the hospital for the next six months, but has since recovered.

December 20, 2010 (Rancho San Diego) – Josephine Mary Ring, 66, was taken into custody by Sheriff’s deputies last night after she called authorities to report that she had shot her son, Vincent Bonfiglio. Sheriff’s deputies found Ring outside the home and her son lying on the floor inside the home at 2214 Tina Street in the unincorporated area of El Cajon. Paramedics were unable to revive him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
December 20, 2010 (Lake Morena) – Firefighters at the Lake Morena Fire Station heard an explosion at 8:45 p.m. last night. “They went outside and saw the house next door was on fire,” Cal-Fire Captain Mike Mohler told East County Magazine. Fire was through the roof, swiftly engulfing the small modular home.
December 20, 2010 (San Diego's East County)--State Route 67 will close in both directions between Prospect and Woodside Avenues tonight through Wednesday from 9 p.m. each night until 5 a.m. the next morning. In addition, starting at 8 p.m., the southbound Magnolia on-ramp, northbound Bradley Avenue on-ramp and Prospect Avenue off-ramp will also be closed. The closures will allow highway construction crews to install highway signs and remove k-rail.
December 20, 2010 (Spring Valley)- -San Miguel firefighters used a 100-foot ladder truck to access a third story roof, cutting ventilation holes to control a raging condominium fire that threatened multiple units in the 3000 block of Charwood Drive in Spring Valley just before 4 a.m.
Five people were inside the unit when the fire began. One occupant told investigators he was trying to light the fireplace when the lighter flame ignited and there was was a swift explosion, as a ball of flame and embers shot out onto the area rug.
December 20, 2010 (San Diego) -- A winter holiday crackdown by 14 local law enforcement agencies resulted in 122 arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs from 12:01 a.m. Friday, December 18 to midnight Saturday, December 19. That’s more than double the 57 DUI arrests made during the same period in 2009. Fortunately, no fatalities associated with DUIs were reported this weekend.
Through year's end, DUI checkpoints, sting operations, multi-agency task force operations and warrant/ probation sweeps will be conducted by local law enforcement agencies.

December 18, 2010 (La Mesa) – A driver lost control of his vehicle on a rain-slicked roadway in the 5800 block of Lake Murray Blvd. at 1:15 this morning. The vehicle, which was traveling southbound, struck a large tree on the center median, then spun out of control and hit another tree. The force of the impact dislodged the engine and transmission. The engine was fond in the driveway of a home about 25 yards away.
December 17, 2010 (San Diego) – A strong Pacific storm is forecast to bring high rains to San Diego County through at least Wednesday of next week. Tne National Weather Service forecasts two to five inches of rain for San Diego’s mountain areas tonight through Sunday. Inland valleys may received up to two inches of rain, with a half inch forecast for desert areas.
December 17, 2010 (Jamul) 11:14 p.m. – A vehicle fire has spread into brush, sparking evacuation of a trailer park at 13800 Lyons Valley Road in Spring Valley, Incident Page Network reports. A rollover accident with a vehicle ending up in a ditch triggered the blaze, which was reported at 10:22 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
December 17, 2010 (Jamul)-Jamul Drive was shut down this afternoon after a passerby found a dead man at 1:45 p.m. The body , which had blood on its face, was lying face-down in the 14000 block of Jamul Drive. California Highway Patrol officers responded and determined that the death did not result from a traffic accident, then summoned Sheriff’s homicide detectives.
