November 24, 2010 (Descanso) -- The Descanso Ranger District of the Cleveland National Forest is conducting 300-500 acres of prescribed burning in the south eastern part of San Diego County. The projects are located near the communities of Alpine, Pine Valley, and Mt Laguna. Prescribed burning will be conducted from November of this year, through June of 2011 as weather and fuel conditions permit.

November 24, 2010 (San Diego’s East County)—East County Magazine visited the Ramona Country Estates neighborhood yesterday where George Djuro Jakubec, the man accused of operating a “bomb factory” in Escondido, lived some two decades ago.
Some neighbors were shocked to learn of the notoriety now attached to this quiet, upscale neighborhood, where Jakubec is listed as the builder of a residence at 15500 Vista Vicente Drive, Ramona. The home is located across the street from a golf course with prime views—and just half a block from the former home of the late tennis star Bobby Riggs, suggesting that the Jakubec family was prosperous when living here.

November 23, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) -- On November 20th, the San Diego Sheriff's Court Services Field Unit conducted a warrant sweep in the cities of El Cajon, La Mesa, Santee, and the unincorporated areas of El Cajon, Alpine and Lakeside. The focus was on apprehension of suspects with outstanding misdemeanor and felony warrants. A total of 67 persons were arrested and 96 warrants were cleared.

November 23, 2010 (La Mesa) – A 17-year-old has been arrested after attempting to rob the Yum-Yum Doughnut store for the second day in a row.
Yesterday 10:50 a.m., the teen stole a tip-jar from the store at 7550 El Cajon Blvd. According to La Mesa Police, he told the employee that he was sorry, but had no money and needed the cash. The employee and suspect struggled briefly over the tip jar, which contained about $10.

November 22, 2010 (Escondido)—George Djura Jakubec, 54, pled not guilty today to 28 criminal counts. He is accused of possessing destructive explosive devices and the ingredients to make them, as well as robbing two local banks.
Deputy District Attorney Terri Perez told Judge Marshall Hockett that the suspect’s home was “a bomb factory” containing “the largest quantity of these types of homemade explosives at one place in the United States.” Those materials pose “a huge danger to officers and the public,” she said.
November 22, 2010 (San Diego)-- Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego officially opened today by providing its first burials of veterans and family members at the new facility.
Military honors at the opening ceremony included a rifle salute and the playing of “Taps.” Acting Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs Steve Muro gave remarks and was joined by VA and local officials in the interment of cremated remains. Casket burial options will be available in early 2011.

November 22, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) -Construction crews from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) have day and night work scheduled for State Route 67 (SR-67) on Tuesday. Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. crews will close the southbound on-ramp at Magnolia Avenue. The northbound Bradley Avenue on-ramp and Prospect Avenue off-ramp will close along with the southbound Magnolia on-ramp.Then at 9 p.m. all lanes of State Route 67 between Prospect and Woodside Avenues will close.
