That was the goal for the Disney filmmakers behind this summer’s live action “The Lion King” remake. In order to do that, filmmakers, including San Diego State University alumnus Tom Peitzman (‘87) set out to create a virtual world, and in the process, fashioned an entirely new way live action films are produced.

July 19, 2019 (San Diego) – By an overwhelming 419 to 6 vote, the House of Representatives has passed H.R. 748, the Middle Class Health Benefits Tax Repeal Act of 2019. The measure, if approved by the Senate and the President, would repeal the so-called “Cadillac Tax,” an Affordable Care Act provision set to roll out in 2022 (postponed from 2020). It would impose a 40% excise tax on generous employer-provided health insurance plans for employees and families.

July 19, 2019 (La Mesa) – A man suspected of strangling his former girlfriend was arrested at 8:20 this morning in the parking garage next to Target in the Grossmont Center regional shopping mall. The woman called police last night to report the strangling that allegedly occurred at her home in San Carlos on Hyde Park Drive. She was treated at a hospital, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

After six incarnations, the musical play, 33 1/3 House of Dreams, will be presented at the SD REP during the month of August. It is a “dream come true” for Jonathan Rosenberg and Dr. Brad Ross.The history ofhow this play came about is also interesting.
It all started at the dentist’s office. Since 1989, San Carlos dentist, Dr. Brad Ross, has been and continues to beJonathan Rosenberg’s dentist. For many years, they shared a cordial professional relationship. Ross knew that Rosenberg was a special education teacher/psychologist in La Mesa, but it took some years for him to discover that Rosenberg was also a musician and music historian.

July 19, 2019 (Lemon Grove) -- The Lemon Grove Library and the Lemon Grove Historical Society present a new exhibit of recent digital paintings by Jack Ofield, the noted filmmaker, animator, graphic designer, painter and writer. Ofield is a member of the Directors Guild of America, a directing fellow of the American Film Institute, and emeritus professor of Film and former filmmaker-in-residence at San Diego State University.

July 18, 2019 (San Diego) – Over two years after a sexual harassment and fraud lawsuit was filed against Ben and Jessica Kalasho, the couple was arraigned last Friday in San Diego Superior Court on multiple counts of contempt of court. The former El Cajon Councilman and his wife are charged with failing to provide subpoenaed documents and actively interfering in the judicial process.
According to legal experts, the punishment for contempt of court can vary greatly. If it is a matter of urgency or if the contempt was done in front of a judge, the punishment can be immediate. Punishment can range from imprisonment of up to five years, to jail time merely until the defendant complies with the order or fine.

These classes will run from July 22nd through August 9th, and will teach all interested students the fundamentals of how computer software is made. ThoughtSTEM builds their curriculum around showing students examples of video games they know, and then helping them create their own similar gaming experience.
