LOCAL INFANT DIES FROM PERTUSSIS

 

A 5-week-old San Diego infant died on July 15 from pertussis, also known as whooping cough, the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency announced today.

UPDATE AS OF JULY 20, 1:08 PM:  FEATHER FIRE 100% CONTAINED AT 100 ACRES/

UPDATE AS OF 2:24 PM:  Fire 90% contained, lawn mower believed to be cause of blaze.

UPDATE AS OF 9:47 AM July 19:  Fire 65% contained, still at 133 acres.

UPDATE AS OF 8:48 P.M.:  Fire 50% contained, still at 133 acres.

July 18, 2016 (Barona) - A fast moving brush fire east of the Barona Reservation started at around 14:00 hours, and has a rapid rate of spread. Residents on or around Feather Canyon Road are under evacuation orders, with Sheriff's officers carrying out those contacts.

As of 17:00 hours, the evacuation order has been lifted and the acreage has been updated to 133 after more thorough mapping.  The fire is still holding.  Crews are on scene.

Large animals can be taken to Equestrian Center at 16911 Gunn Stage Road in Ramona.

MASS CASUALTY/ACTIVE SHOOTER TRAINING IN LA MESA THIS THURSDAY

July 18, 2016 (La Mesa) - On Thursday July 21st at 9:45 a.m., Heartland Fire & Rescue in partnership with La Mesa Police Department and allied agencies, will be conducting our annual Mass Casualty Incident training. The training will include an Active Shooter element. This training allows Law Enforcement and Fire Department personnel to work together in the event of an actual active shooter, like what we have recently seen in Dallas, Texas and San Bernardino, California. To make this training more realistic, we will have live actors in moulage, simulating injuries that we would encounter in this type of emergency.

RESIDENTIAL STRUCTURE FIRE IN EL CAJON

July 18, 2016 (El Cajon) - At approximately 12:00 p.m. Sunday, Heartland Fire & Rescue units from El Cajon were dispatched to reports of a single story, single family residential structure fire in the 1000 block of Leslie Road in El Cajon.  Fire crews arrived within 5 minutes to discover smoke and fire coming from a room attached to the rear of the structure. Firefighters were able to confine the fire to the area of origin with some attic involvement.The fire was controlled within 10 minutes.

Military officials who closed a CNN office were arrested by police, who guarded the military men in custody from an angry crowd. 161 people are confirmed dead as three bombs exploded at Parliament, which went into lockdown.

July 14, 2016 (Nice, Fra.) - Today is Bastille Day, the French Fourth of July.  But the celebration was cut short tonight in the city of Nice, a popular tourist destination in France, as a truck accelerated into a crowd of revelers, killing at least 70 and injuring at least 100 people and French authorities say the death toll is rising.  The incident IS being treated as a terrorist attack.
