July 7, 2012 (El Cajon) – A new phenomenon in today’s challenging economy is the rise of “cash mobs” organized by friends via social media to help local merchants. The craze has caught on across the country and today, takes root in El Cajon.  

The public is invited to meet at the corner of Main St. and Magnolia in front of Starbucks at noon, then walk en mass to Glamour Girlz Boutique one block east on Main St.

Musician/author finds new career as author, speaker inspired by baggage mishap

June 18, 2012 (San Diego) -- After United Airlines’ baggage handlers broke the neck of his Taylor guitar, Dave Carroll didn’t just get mad--he got even.

Carroll wrote and starred in a music video that has now had over 12 million hits on Youtube.  Titled United Breaks Guitars, the video uses humor to illustrate the troubles Carroll went through trying to get compensated for his loss. Its success has been hailed as a model of how one person can make a difference by using social media.

June 19, 2012 (Sacramento) -- Veterans returning to the civilian workforce may be eligible for some specialized assistance through the California Department of Consumer Affairs’ Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (Bureau). The Bureau has developed the Veterans Come First program for veterans who want to leverage their military training to become licensed as security guards, private patrol operators, firearms instructors, or other licensee of the Bureau.

NEW STORES OPENING AT WESTFIELD PARKWAY MALL

May 12, 2012 (El Cajon) – Four new stores will open at Westfield Parkway this year.  The new stores include discount housewares seller HomeGoods, Ulta, a beauty products retailer and fashion retailers Charlotte Russe and Papaya.

Westfield Senior Vice President Tom Tierney said operators will announce more brand-name retail and restaurants in the coming months.  Westfield Parkway is located at 415 Parkway Plaza in El Cajon.

This year the Chamber has added “Taste of the Century” to celebrate the City of La Mesaʼs 100th Anniversary.

The evening allows guests to sample fare from many local restaurants and food providers, as well as winetasting and craft beers.
