MAN FOUND SHOT IN STREET

 

January 1, 2010 (San Diego) – San Diego Police responded to a radio call of a man lying in the street with a gun in his hand yesterday at 1:57 p.m. They found a Hispanic man, 29, lying in the street in the 3100 block of Calle Abajo at Paradise Hills, with gunshot wounds to his shoulder and upper back.

HATE CRIMES, TERRORIST THREAT AMONG CHARGES TO BE FILED AFTER RACIAL SLUR LEADS TO LAKESIDE BRAWL

 

January 1, 2011 (Lakeside) – An argument that began with racial slurs resulted in a fight involving 30 to 40 people shortly before midnight on New Year’s Eve. The brawl ended with multiple injuries and five arrests in Lakeside.

2-ALARM FIRE IN SANTEE: MAN INSIDE CLAIMS HE SET FIRE, SHOT WIFE

 

Update 6:45 p.m. - The fire destroyed one home and damaged a neighboring residence before fire officials were able to douse the blaze.  Authorities have not yet disclosed the fates of the homeowner and his wife, however the investigation has been turned over to the Homicide Unit.  Neighbors have told other media that the homeowner was despondent because he and his wife had lost their jobs, faced foreclosure, and because the wife had cancer.

BURGLAR STABS HOMEOWNER IN HEAD

 

January 1, 2010 (Normal Heights)—A homeowner at 4348 38th Street in San Diego’s Normal Heights neighborhood heard a knock on his front door, but didn’t answer. Moments later, the living room window was smashed. The homeowner pursued the intruder into an alley, where a fight ensued and the homeowner was stabbed several times in the head, Officer Frank Cali with San Diego Police reports.

January 1, 2010 (El Cajon)--The FBI and local law enforcement are seeking the public’s assistance to identify the man responsible for robbing the Wells Fargo Bank, 2366 Jamacha Road, El Cajon, on Monday, December 20th. The suspect entered the bank at around 3:05 p.m. carrying a black umbrella in his right hand to conceal the right side of his face. Once at the teller counter, the robber pulled out a demand note using his left hand.

PEDESTRIAN KILLED, LA MESA RESIDENT ARRESTED FOR DRUNK DRIVING

 

 

January 1, 2011 (La Mesa) Updated 8 p.m.– Dana Lohner, 48, of La Mesa has been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after she struck and killed Kelly McPherson, 53, a pedestrian from Mission Valley.  McPherson died at the scene.  

 

Lohner, who was driving a Ford Mustang was booked into the Las Colinas Jail.

HOLIDAY CRACKDOWN ON DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE


DUI Arrests Down; With One Suspected DUI Related Fatality

 

December 31, 2010 (San Diego)--A countywide holiday anti-DUI crackdown has resulted in numerous DUI arrests during local traffic enforcement details and special DUI deployments in San Diego County. From 12:01 a.m.  December 17 through midnight on December 29, officers from 14 county law enforcement agencies arrested 499 people for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In 2009, 582 DUI arrests and bookings occurred during the same 13 day time period.

 

As part of the Winter Holiday Anti-DUI crackdown, members from multiple law enforcement agencies in San Diego County will be conducting DUI checkpoints and directed DUI Saturation enforcement during the New Year’s Eve weekend. Details are planned in the following cities, San Diego’s Sheriff office reports:

ARREST MADE IN FELONY HIT-AND-RUN

 

December 30, 2010 (El Cajon)—An El Cajon man turned himself into the El Cajon Police Department around 11:30 a.m. today, stating that he was the driver of a hit and run vehicle. According to El Cajon Police Detective Tim Roberts, the driver is John Senati, 46, of El Cajon.

 

The collision occurred Monday evening in the 500 block of North Mollison Avenue when a vehicle struck and  injured a pedestrian who was crossing the roadway. The pedestrian remains hospitalized in critical condition.

SPRING VALLEY MAN ATTACKED BY SON WITH SAMURAI SWORD

December 29, 2010 (Spring Valley) – John Cahan, 39, pled not guilty to charges of elder abuse, first-degree burglary and assault with a deadly weapon. He is accused of walking into his father’s bedroom on Terrace Sprio in Spring Valley on December 26th and attacking him with a samurai sword.

WOMAN ATTACKED WHILE WALKING DOG IN LA MESA PARK

 

December 22, 2010 (La Mesa) – La Mesa Police are seeking a suspect who attacked a woman, 30, this evening in Aztec Park at 5400 Aztec Drive. The attack was reported at 6:19 p.m. The woman was walking her dog in the southeast area of the park when she was grabbed from behind and hit on the right side of her head.

JUVENILE ASSAULTED & ROBBED IN LA MESA

 

December 21, 2010 (La Mesa)—La Mesa Police Department responded to a robbery near the Jack in the Box restaurant located at 6987 University Av., La Mesa around 5:20 p.m. today. According to police, three juveniles approached a 16-year-old and demanded his cell phone. One suspect grabbed the victim’s phone while the other two kicked and punched him. The victim had abrasions and some bruising from the incident.

SUSPECT IN SPRING VALLEY ATTACK FOUND GUILTY OF ATTEMPTED MURDER

 

DNA match found in cold case leads to conviction

December 20, 2010 – Jorge M. Gutierrez has been convicted of attempted murder for shooting Javier Carillo, over four years ago during an attempted robbery in Spring Valley. Carillo suffered serious injuries to his lower torso when he was shot in March 2006 in the 900 block of Harness Street in Spring Valley. The victim was in and out of the hospital for the next six months, but has since recovered.

December 20, 2010 (Bonita) -- It’s the season for family celebrations. But two local mothers, it’s a painful reminder of that empty spot at the dinner table. Their teenage sons were shot and killed on Highway 54 in Bonita two years ago. Today, both made an appeal to find the killer(s) of their children, Brandon Johnson, 16, and Donnell Davis, 15.

RANCHO SAN DIEGO MOTHER IN CUSTODY FOR KILLING SON

 

December 20, 2010 (Rancho San Diego) – Josephine Mary Ring, 66, was taken into custody by Sheriff’s deputies last night after she called authorities to report that she had shot her son, Vincent Bonfiglio. Sheriff’s deputies found Ring outside the home and her son lying on the floor inside the home at 2214 Tina Street in the unincorporated area of El Cajon.  Paramedics were unable to revive him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

DUI ARRESTS MORE THAN DOUBLE IN COUNTY FOR HOLIDAY WEEKEND

 

December 20, 2010 (San Diego) -- A winter holiday crackdown by 14 local law enforcement agencies resulted in 122 arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs from 12:01 a.m. Friday, December 18 to midnight Saturday, December 19. That’s more than double the 57 DUI arrests made during the same period in 2009. Fortunately, no fatalities associated with DUIs were reported this weekend.

 

Through year's end, DUI checkpoints, sting operations, multi-agency task force operations and warrant/ probation sweeps will be conducted by local law enforcement agencies.

BODY FOUND IN JAMUL; HOMICIDE INVESTIGATING

December 17, 2010 (Jamul)-Jamul Drive was shut down this afternoon after a passerby found a dead man at 1:45 p.m. The body , which had blood on its face, was lying face-down in the 14000 block of Jamul Drive. California Highway Patrol officers responded and determined that the death did not result from a traffic accident, then summoned Sheriff’s homicide detectives.

ARMED ROBBERY AT SANTEE 7-11, SHERIFF REPORTS

 

December 16, 2010 (Santee) -- On Tuesday, December 14 shortly before 3 a.m.,a clerk at the 7-11 store at 9750 Cuyamaca Street in Santee was robbed at gun point by a man wielding a semi-automatic handgun, according to Sergeant Craig Johnson with the Sheriff’s Department.

HIGH SPEED CHASE ENDS IN CRASH, INJURING TWO

 

December 16, 2010 (San Diego) – A woman, 31, suspected of assault with a deadly weapon at 7102 Astoria Street in East San Diego led police on a high-speed chase for several miles shortly after midnight. After running a red light at eastbound Imperial and Valencia Parkway, the suspect collided with a Toyota that was making a left turn.

December 16, 2010 (El Cajon )- Last night around 10 p.m., deputies from the Lemon Grove Sheriff's Station responded to a report of an armed home invasion robbery at 2966 Wildwind Drive in the Rancho San Diego area of unincorporated El Cajon near Steele Canyon County Park. (View map) Four armedm masked white men entered the home and held four victims at gunpoint while conducting the robbery, Sergeant Chris Davis reports. Victims were also bound and blindfolded.

$20,000 REWARD OFFERED IN GEEZER BANDIT INVESTIGATION

 

December 16, 2010 (San Diego) --The FBI and several local banks are offering a combined reward of $20,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the “Geezer Bandit.” 

 

The “Geezer Bandit” is believed to be responsible for robbing 12 banks since August 2009 throughout San Diego County, including East County, and most recently, in Bakersfield.

SERIAL BANK ROBBERY SUSPECT ARRESTED, FBI ANNOUNCES

December 15, 2010 (San Diego)-- The FBI today announced the arrest of Sammy William Thomas,  27.  Thomas was taken into custody on December 8 by Agents and Officers from the FBI, San Diego Police Department, El Cajon Police Department and the California Department of Corrections. 

 

He is charged with nine bank robberies, including several banks in East County.

MURDER-SUICIDE VICTIM REMEMBERED IN COLLEGE AREA

December 13, 2010 (San Diego) – Hundreds gathered in front of Michel David’s College-area apartment Saturday night at a candlelight to remember the slain student after David was identified as the victim in a murder-suicide that occurred on Friday. David, 22, was a senior at SDSU. Her former boyfriend, Daniel Shoemake, is believed to have murdered David with an assault rifle before killing himself with a handgun.

“She was just an angel. She always had a positive outlook on life,” April Hernandez, aho traveled to Costa Rica with David in a study-abroad program, told ECM News partner 10 News.

CLERK WITH SCREW DRIVER FOILS ROBBERY BY MAN WITH PHONY GUN

 

December 11, 2010 (La Mesa) – This morning at 3 a.m., a man wearing a black bandana tried to rob the Shell Station at 5302 Lake Murray Blvd. The clerk noticed that the “weapon” held by the suspect was a glove folded in the shape of a gun. So when the would-be thief demanded money, the clerk armed himself with a screw driver and told the suspect to leave.

December 10, 2010 (San Diego) – San Diego Police homicide detectives are investigating the murder of a 22-year-old woman and the suicide of a man, 21, whom she had dated. Officers responded to a report of gunshots and found the woman lying in the street in the 4500 block of 55th Street this morning at 9:52 a.m. She had several gunshot wounds and an assault rifle was found near her body.

MAN ARRESTED FOR IMPERSONATING POLICE OFFICER IN BAR

 

December 9, 2010 (San Diego) – San Diego Police arrested Jorge Pando, 22, for impersonating a police officer. According to Sgt. Ray Battrick, Pando had been drinking at Vallartas Bar at 4125 El Cajon Blvd. around 1 a.m. when he told a woman that he was a police officer and insisted that she had to give him personal information. She refused, telling him her boyfriend was present, and Pando then flashed a badge twice.

PAROLEE ARRESTED FOR KIDNAP, RAPE OF GIRL ABDUCTED FROM WAL-MART IN EL CAJON

 

December 8, 2010 (El Cajon)—A 15-year-old girl was abducted from the Wal-Mart at 13487 Camino Canada in El Cajon on Monday December 6th, San Diego Sheriff’s Department reports. Parolee David Lascelles has been arrested for allegedly using a gun to kidnap the victim, then drive her to Fiesta Island, where he reportedly raped her.
