October 5, 2014 (Julian)-- Sheriff's Search and Rescue has been activated in an effort to find a 75-year old woman with Alzheimer's who walked away from a campground in Julian.

Sally Estabrook was last seen Saturday, October 4th, around 4:00 p.m. at the Pinezanita RV Park & Campgrounds in the 4400 block of Highway 79. When Estabrook's husband finished taking a shower, he noticed she was gone.

October 4, 2014 (San Diego’s East County) The inner ears of people were “drastically” altered after exposure to low frequency noise. Living close to wind turbines may lead to severe hearing damage or even deafness. Those are the findings of scientists from the University of Munich, Germany, according to a study published in the Royal Society’s Open Science Journal on October 1^st.

October 3, 2014 (Alpine) – The Alpine Woman’s Club is having a party and everyone is welcome! Come join in on the fun at the Alpine Historic Town Hall, 2156 Alpine Blvd. on Saturday, October 4th, 2014. The celebration begins at 10:00 a.m. and goes until 4 p.m.  There will have activities for children of all ages; exhibits; demonstrations; display of "Time Capsule" items, historical information about the club; a melodrama; and square dancing. Food may be purchased at the event and there will be a few surprises! We will also be raffling off a beautiful handmade quilt.

Latest cases prompt clarification: Ebola can be spread by sneezing, coughing to people 3 to 6 feet away

October 2, 2014 (Dallas)--The first case of Ebola diagnosed in the U.S. occurred this week in Texas, where the patient was initially sent home from a hospital.  A search is underway for about 100 people in the Dallas area who may have been exposed to the Ebola patient, who had traveled here from Liberia.  Dallas officials sent a reverse emergency call to 11,000 area residents to warn them about the situation, including parents at four schools  where several exposed children attended class. October 2, 2014 (Rancho San Diego)—Republican Congressman Duncan D. Hunter, a Marine Corps veteran,  and challenger James Kimber, a former Navy corspman and current physician assistant in neurosurgery, took the stage September 26th at Cuyamaca College in a contentious yet civil debate.  Voters have a clear choice in this race, in which the candidates clashed on nearly every issue. While finding common ground on the importance of fighting terrorism and protecting the backcountry against massive energy projects that threaten rural communities and public safety, the two contenders offered contrasting views on nearly everything else, from budget priorities to climate change to the role of government itself.

October 1, 2014 (Sacramento) – Governor Jerry Brown has signed two bills to regulate firearms, but vetoed a third.

Family members can now seek a temporarily restraining order in court to block gun use and purchase, short-term, by a person showing signs of mental instability.  Assembly Bill 1014 was prompted by the deadly shootings in Isla Vista near U.C. Santa Barbara, where family members had warned law enforcement that they feared the suspect was planning violence.

October 1, 2014 (San Diego) – San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer has responded to calls from the City Council and more than a thousand climate march activists locally by releasing a comprehensive Climate Action Plan.
