FATHER ARRESTED FOR SOLICITING MURDER OF DAUGHTER’S BOYFRIEND, A CONVICTED SEX OFFENDER

 

March 25, 2011 (La Mesa) La Mesa Police Department today arrested Domingos Oliveira, 50, of Spring Valley for soliciting the murder of his 19 year-old daughter’s boyfriend. Police were notified by the suspect’s daughter and boyfriend, after several posters had been placed on the campus of Grossmont College within the past two weeks.

MASKED SUSPECTS SMASH, ROB I-POD KIOSK AT GROSSMONT CENTER; FLEE IN TAN SEDAN

 

March 22, 2011 (La Mesa)--At 2:35 p.m., three masked suspects smashed the I-Pod liosk display counter at Grossmont Center and stole  electronic items. The suspects are described as either black or Hispanic males.

POLICE SEEK SUSPECTS IN MAROON ULTIMA WHO ROBBED 95-YEAR-OLD WOMAN IN LA MESA

 

March 22, 2011 (La Mesa) – A witness who saw a 95-year-old woman knocked to the ground in a robbery this evening chased two suspects, La Mesa Police report. Police are seeking two suspects in a maroon 2000-2004 Nissan Ultima 4-door vehicle.

CARJACKED VEHICLE FOUND IN LA MESA

 

March 13, 2011 (La Mesa) –A vehicle stolen in a violent carjacking in the Skyline area of San Diego last was recovered in La Mesa, San Diego Police report. The victim was invited to a party at a home on Shorewood Drive, but arrived to find no party. Instead, three black men in their early 20s approached the victim and one struck him in the back of the head with a handgun.

ROBBER FORCES EMPLOYEES INTO CLOSET IN YOGURT STORE HOLD-UP

 

March 7, 2011 (La Mesa) – A lone gunman made off with cold cash stolen from the Golden Spoon Frozen Yogurt Store at 5640 Lake Murray Blvd. last night around 9:25. The suspect displayed a handgun and ordered two employees to empty the safe, then deposit the money in a paper bag. He then forced the employees into a closet and blocked the closet door with chairs.

Sliding forward in time, on March 6, 2011 at 6 p.m., the eight trombonists in San Diego’s own Bone-A-FieD Brass Ensemble will appear in a special concert followed by a “Mini-Mardi Gras Party” featuring Cajun hors d’oeuvres and more music.

FLETCHER PARKWAY TO BE DESIGNATED "VETERANS MEMORIAL PARKWAY"

February 16, 2011 (La Mesa) -- As part of the City of La Mesa’s ongoing effort to honor our Veterans, La Mesa residents who are World War II Veterans are invited to attend the La Mesa City Council meeting at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22 at the City Council Chambers, 8130 Allison Avenue. The City Council will take a moment to honor WWII military personnel for their service during their regularly scheduled meeting. Last month the Council recognized the Pearl Harbor Survivors for their valor.

Once a month between January and June, the City Council will pause to honor a different Veterans Group from each of the major military actions. The celebrations will culminate on June 3rd when La Mesa’s Fletcher Parkway will be designated as “Veterans Memorial Parkway” during a festive ceremony to be held at Parkway Middle School.

ROBBERS TAKE “DOUGH” FROM YUM-YUM STORE

  

February 8, 2011 (La Mesa) -- La Mesa Police officers responded to a report of a robbery at Yum Yum Donuts, 7550 El Cajon Blvd., at 2:28 a.m. Two employees reported that a pair of armed male suspects stole cash, then fled on foot.

February 3, 2011 (La Mesa) -- On February 16, 2012, La Mesa will turn 100, and city leaders hope to celebrate throughout the year, from special commemorative events to putting a centennial spin on annual events such as Oktoberfest. The city has extended an invitation for civic organizations to collaborate with events of their own. All, it hopes, will be underwritten -as the Flag Day Parade is- by sponsorships and volunteer efforts.

CARJACKING SUSPECT ARRESTED IN LA MESA

 

February 2, 2011 (La Mesa) -- Around 9:28 this morning, a man flagged down a La Mesa Police Officer in the 7500 block of El Cajon Boulevard to report a carjacking. Officers immediately searched the area and found Lachapelle Chenda, 30, of San Diego, in the back lot of an apartment complex in 4800 block of Parks Avenue.

WOMAN INJURED DURING PURSE SNATCHING AT GROSSMONT CENTER

 

January 27, 2011 (La Mesa) – A woman walking to her car in the Wal-Mart parking lot at Grossmont Center had her purse stolen last night around 6:30 p.m.The victim was approached from behind by the suspect, who grabbed the purse by the strap and attempted to flee. The victim tried unsuccessfully to hold onto her puse, twisting her lower back during the struggle.

BANK ROBBERY IN LA MESA

 

January 27, 2011 (La Mesa)- On Tuesday, January 25 at 9:37 a.m., a lone suspect robbed the Pacific West Bank at 7966 La Mesa Boulevard. He handed a teller a demand note and fled on foot with the cash. No weapon was displayed and no one was harmed. Police called in the ASTREA helicopter to assist, but were unable to locate the suspect, who was last seen near La Mesa Blvd. and Guava Avenue.

LA MESA MAN WANTED FOR CHILD MOLESTATION

 

January 22, 2011 (La Mesa)--The La Mesa Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance to help locate and apprehend Jeffrey John McPherson, 41, who is wanted for several counts of child molestation  after meeting the victim on MySpace.com.

 

On June 24, 2010, McPherson was arrested by the LMPD for molesting a 16-year-old boy over a 9-month period. He failed to make a court appearance while out on bail. On December 3, a felony arrest warrant was issued. McPherson’s current whereabouts are unknown.  He is white, 6’0”, 185 lbs, with brown hair, blue eyes, and multiple tattoos covering both arms.

James N. Madero, Ph.D., specializes in workplace and school violence prevention. He is the Director of Violence Prevention International, a national organizational consulting firm based in San Diego. Madero will speak on Wednesday, February 2nd at the La Mesa Community Center, 4975 Memorial Drive, La Mesa. The event, sponsored by the La Mesa-Foothills Democratic Club, is free and open to the general public. Socializing starts at 6:30, with the program at 7 p.m.

PEDESTRIAN KILLED, LA MESA RESIDENT ARRESTED FOR DRUNK DRIVING

 

 

January 1, 2011 (La Mesa) Updated 8 p.m.– Dana Lohner, 48, of La Mesa has been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after she struck and killed Kelly McPherson, 53, a pedestrian from Mission Valley.  McPherson died at the scene.  

 

Lohner, who was driving a Ford Mustang was booked into the Las Colinas Jail.
