Lechuga Gonzalez and Yacopino took second and third place in the three-meter competition

November 23, 2019 ( - San Diego State’s diving team closed out competition at the NAU Diving Invitational Saturday. The Aztecs secured two spots on the podium in the 3-meter diving contest.

Sophomore Ximena Lechuga Gonzalez lead SDSU for the second straight day, earning the Aztecs’ top finish in competition with a preliminary heat score of 306.65 and a finals core of 293.50. Senior Marie Yacopino secured her second bronze finish of the invite with a prelim mark of 288.10 and a finals score of 292.60, both season-best marks. Sophomore Gillian Garcia rounded out the top-five finishers with a preliminary score of 274.15 and a finals mark of 283.55. Sophomores Gina Cazares and Lexi Lets alongside junior Erica Sarver tallied seventh, ninth, and tenth-place marks with combined heat scores of 523.95, 490.75, and 473.80, respectively.

The Aztecs now have another extended break from competition, next hitting the water when they take on Vanderbilt and Seattle at the Aztec Aquaplex December 20. Action is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
