AZTECS WOMEN'S TENNIS BLANKS SACRAMENTO STATE

January 20, 2019 (San Diego) - San Diego State women's tennis kicked off its season Sunday afternoon with a dominant win over Sacramento State, 7-0, at the Aztec Tennis Center. The Aztecs did not drop a single match on the afternoon, winning all three doubles matches and finishing off singles with ease.

In doubles action, sophomore Abbie Mulbarger and freshman Agustina Rimoldi Godoy blanked Hornets Sofi Wicker and Frana Ugarkovic, 6-0, in the No. 3 matchup, while sophomore Nnena Nadozie and senior Magda Aubets topped Maria Gonzalez and Jenna Dorian, 6-1, to claim the doubles point for the Aztecs. Senior Jenny Moinard and freshman Shakhnoza Khatamova finished the third doubles match shortly after, going 7-6 (4) over Carolina Chernyetsky and Jayden Nielsen in the top-seeded match.

The Aztecs glided through singles just as easily as doubles play, where newcomer Alicia Melosch took down Dorian, 6-2, 6-3, in the fourth seed while Nadozie topped Nielsen, 6-3, 6-2, in the third seed. Top-seeded junior Mia Smith sealed the Aztecs’ fate with her 6-2, 6-3 win over Carolina Chernyetsky to claim the dual victory for SDSU.

The three Aztecs remaining on courts continued the winning trend, with Aubets finishing 6-3, 6-2, over Sac State’s Wicker in the fifth seed, Moinard topped Gonzalez 7-6 (3), 6-2 in the No. 2 match, and Mulbarger completed a 6-2, 6-2 win over Urgarkovic in the sixth seed.

The Aztecs return to the ATC next weekend for back-to-back days of competition, first welcoming UCSD on Saturday, Jan. 26, then UC Riverside Sunday the 27^th. Next weekend’s duals are set to begin at noon each day.
