January 29, 2019 (Jamul) – Craig “Brody” Broderick, co-owner of Brody's Burgers & Beer in Jamul, is recovering in a hospital after suffering severe injuries in a skiing accident.

According to a post by his wife on the restaurant’s Facebook page, “Craig was skiing Tuesday at Alta and in a freak accident went head first off of a 15 ft. cliff and landed on his head.”

Thanks to the quick response from an unknown witness who cleared his airway and the professionalism of Alta ski patrol who got him off the mountain in three feet of fresh snow and onto life flight in under 45  minutes, he is still with us,” she added.

Although he suffered numerous spinal fractures and a spinal contusion, his wife reports he is making daily progress as the swelling subsides. His tongue, nearly bitten all the way through, had swollen up, blocking his airway

“After the accident, he had zero ability to move,” his wife states, adding that he now has feeling in all of his limbs as well as “some movement on his life side and minimal movement on his right.”  She credits the helmet he wore with saving his brain, adding that experts credit yoga with aiding in his recovery.

Some community members have inquired about helping to raise money for medical costs. The family asks for patience and positive thoughts in lieu of flowers.

“We are hopeful that Craig will make a full recovery,” she said, adding, “We can feel all the love from our family, friends and course our amazing community.”
