November 20, 2010 (San Diego) – Yesterday, Caltrans District 11 hosted a blood drive with the San Diego Blood Bank, capturing 42 pints to help members of the Lakeside Saddletramps motorcycle club who were injured in a November 13 crash in Ocotillo that also killed four club members.

“We host these blood drives five times a year, with a goal of collecting 38 pints per drive,” said Carmen Irene, blood drive coordinator for Caltrans District 11. “Most of the time, the "credits" go into the Caltrans Family Plan which can be used by any Caltrans employee or their family. This drive we put the word out that people could volunteer to credit the Saddle Tramps if they so desire. I'm proud to say that we not only exceeded the goal, but every single donation was credited to the Saddle Tramps account!”

She added that “a host of strangers are pulling for them and send their best wishes.”
