READERS’ EDITORIAL: KILLING WOMEN IS NOT “PRO-LIFE”

February 26, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) --I do not think the anti-abortion groups should be allowed to lay claim to the name "pro-lifers."

After all, they now want Congress to pass a law to prohibit abortions needed to save a woman's life.

Many anti-abortionists have advocated taking that step for years. Too many of them call for violence and a few have even advocated killing or have killed those who provided abortions.

Certainly eliminating funds for screenings for cancer, AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases, as the Republican-controlled House of Representatives has just voted to do with the Pence Amendment to H.R. 1, cannot be considered “pro-life.”

How many poor women may now die because they couldn’t afford these vital health screenings?

GOP kills people

Wren,
Don't you think the Republicans want to kill children and old people is a little cliché'? Maybe a little old by now? It is as silly as me saying all liberal democrats want to kill all unborn children. I don't believe that. If you really do than you need to up your visits to your shrink. How about really discussing this like an adult. Like this thread.

I've talked with quite a few Republican voters locally who are appalled by this vote.  The problem is the elected officials now controlling Congress clearly don't care about women's lives, since they actually voted to put women's lives at risk. That's a fact.   As long as Republican voters keep voting for people with such extremist views, women's lives will be at risk.

Republicans who disapprove of this vote may wish to let their elected officials know. As long as they don't hear complaints, or only hear from people who didn't vote for them, all three local Republican Congressmembers who cast this vote will believe they can keep getting reelected even if they vote to endanger women's lives.

Talking to the wrong people

You need to talk to your democrat congressmen. They are taxing the population out of existence. The tax and spend liberals have taken out credit cards that even your great grandchildren won't be able to afford. This will lead to rampant poverty as unemployment under this president has reached epic proportions, including an uneployment rate over 20% for black men. Food prices are at an all time high, gas prices are rising at astronomical rates, we are letting terrorist over our borders with reckless abandon, we are borrowing money from China at a higher rate than all debts from foreign lands combined.

The current administration has spent us into debt more than all presidents combined through Ronald Reagan. His refusal to allow drilling in our country for oil and natural gas has crippled the economy and will give us $6.00 a gallon gas and lead to more deaths from the poor and the old in cold areas because they will not be able to afford heating oil.

Call you local representatives and tell them to listen to the common sense of the Republicans and get our fiscal house in order. American people have to live on a budget why shouldn't the liberals and the government do the same?
How's that miriamg?
