During this test event, customers are encouraged to save energy to earn a
bill credit on next month’s bill

July 20, 2012 (San Diego County) -- Today, SDG&E will call the first, system-wide Reduce Your Use event to test its notification systems and processes.

While SDG&E is not calling this event due to a system emergency, customers are encouraged to take this opportunity to participate by testing their energy savings techniques and earn rewards on their next utility bill.

When customers reduce their electricity use between 11 a.m. - 6 p.m., they will be eligible to earn a bill credit of $0.75 per kilowatt hour saved.

Here are some quick tips to help customers save energy at home:
  • Raise your central A/C’s thermostat setting four to six degrees.
  • Run major appliances before 11 a.m. or after 6 p.m.
  • Unplug chargers and power strips.
  • Turn off pool pumps between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.
As with any Reduce Your Use day, customers are encouraged to log on to My Account after the event by going to the My Energy tab and click on My Energy Use. Use less than the amount of kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity shown on the table and you'll start earning more rewards. Smart meters cost you money

The smart meter will cost you money. SDGE uses them to extract money from your hard earned paycheck. They lost 4 months of my meter and charged me almost $300 per month. They could not show me ANY proof of meter reading and somehow lost all of my information. How can that be considering I have been at the same residence for almost 20 YEARS!!!! They sent me to special billing and I told them that was almost double my bill for the last 3 years but she said and i quote "if you do not like it we can disconnect your electricity and you can find it somewhere else" really? this is how you treat a customer? I guess so because you are trapped into "stand and deliver" SDGE. Sad so sad. I hate you SDGE.
