Update April 5, 2015 (San Diego's East County) -- Cal Fire has ended the no-burn proclamation due to improving conditions, higher humidity and availability of fire resources..
April 4, 2015 (San Diego’s East County) – Effective immediately, Cal Fire has issued a no-burn proclamation suspending burning permits and other uses of open fire, except for campfires in established campfire facilities in public campgrounds.
The order is due to the “extreme menace” posed by critical fire weather and acute dryness of vegetation and/or fire suppression forces being heavily committed to control fires, according to Dave Nissan, Deputy Chief of Cal-Fire’s San Diego unit.
The order applies to all state responsibility areas within San Diego and Imperial Counties, but not to incorporated cities.
The announcement comes one day after small brush fires broke out near Grossmont College and in Ramona. Both were quickly extinguished.

There are a lot of ways to prepare for a wildfire.
On-site water storage is good. Also if you evacuate leave signs alerting firefighters to water sources on the property, whether it's a wtaer tank, swimming pool, spa, pond, etc. If you have hoses to attach to a water tank, leave them out for the firerfighters too.
There are also spray-on fire retardant gels you can get, and some now last for days, not just hours.
When you evacuate, seal up the house tightly so embers can't get through open windows or doors.
Preparing ahead with hardscaping, fire resistant landscaping, fire resistant buildng materials are all good. Trim trees away from the house and cut weeds at the very least and don't leave anything flammable close by such as propane tanks, gasoline, oily rags, etc.
Fire
A friends house almost burned during the Cedar fire. A neighbor owned a water tank truck and sprayed adjoining homes and yards untill the danger passed.
