DEPUTY KILLS MAN AFTER CONFRONTATION IN ALPINE

May 29, 2015 (Alpine) – A Sheriff’s deputy fatally shot a man in rural Alpine who allegedly threatened the deputy with a screwdriver Wednesday.

The victim has been identified as Simon D. Hubble, 33.  The deputy, Aaron Miller, has served on the Sheriff’s force for the past six years.

Around 4:30 p.m., a caller reported a mentally ill man was behaving in a violent manner. Deputies responded to the home in the 3600 block of Emmanuel Way near Gaskill Peak Road in the Japatul Valley area of Alpine, according to Lt. John Maryon.

A witness told responding deputies that Hubble had stated he intended to take a drug overdose “or attack a deputy with a screwdriver with the intent of provoking a shooting,” Lt. Maryon stated.

Hubble later confronted Deputy Miller near the home. According to Lt. Maryon, Miller tried to subdue the suspect with a taser but was unsuccessful, ultimately shooting Hubble with Deputy Miller’s service gun. Investigators said a screw driver was found by the body.

Just FYI the autopsy reported stated no electronic device marks present!!!!! Hmmmm didn't work or deputy miller is just a way better shot with his gun! Get for real. Half the statements made were not accurate and also, look at the helicopter view of scene. Simon was clearly way away from his and the deputy's vehicle. If he were on the attack with the screwdriver, he would have clearly done it when they were door to door. Yes door to door.!!!!! Yeah, thank god huh? His parents called for help and they insured non lethal methods would be used. The taiser either was never used or he missed several times but seem to be right on target to kill him. Why this case only got a few minutes of time is beyond me.

Wow. And what would you have done after the taiser didn't work and he was still charging? I'll bet if you asked real nice the guy would have just dropped the weapon and sat down to have a chat. Kudos to you Deputy Miller for going home safe!

Was it blade-type or Phillips? Oh well, I guess it doesn't matter. Both types are lethal, I've learned from this. At least in Alpine. Now that this dangerous mentally ill person is dead I can go the Ryte-Aid w/o fear, thanks to the straight-shooting Deputy Miller.
