The craft beer scene has hit La Mesa with latest restaurant’s opening

By: Reema Makani Boccia

The craft beer scene in San Diego is taking the nation by storm, and Craft Kitchen Restaurant in La Mesa is the latest addition to the burgeoning industry.

Located on a non-descript corner of a residential neighborhood on Spring St. and Palm Ave., the green plant walls on the façade are a refreshing look to the neighborhood while blending. If not for the white marquee in the parking lot, it might be easily missed driving by unless specifically looking for it.

Owned by the same family who owns Palm Springs liquor a block away, the owners wanted to carry over the beer culture they immersed themselves in to a new restaurant concept for the area. The family-friendly spot offers breakfast, lunch and dinner with a small but thoughtful menu.

A children’s menu makes the restaurant accessible to many of the young families flocking to East County who want a fun and unique place to hang out. The children’s menu includes chicken strips, mac ‘n’ cheese and fish ‘n’ chips. For larger appetites, the flatbreads, sandwiches and salads are good, but the shrimp tacos, chicken wings and homemade bacon-wrapped corn dogs are not to be missed.

The restaurant is great for a good breakfast or lunch, but is ideal for an after-work drink at the bar. Pairing any of the menu selections with one of the 30 brews they have on tap will round out any meal. The establishment is beer and wine only (so far), but they do offer wine and sake cocktails for those who are not yet on the craft beer bandwagon. Craft Kitchen is open from 7 am. to 11 p.m. daily, and they do not take reservations.

Craft Kitchen has been open since early April, but is hosting its official grand opening celebration on Wednesday, May 27 beginning at 5:30 p.m. Stop by to check out the place sooner rather than later to beat the crowds. For more information, visit http://lamesacraftkitchen.com/.

Cheers to La Mesa’s newest addition!
