June 22, 2015 (San Diego's East County)--Summit Unitarian Universalist Fellowship will be holding a Standing on the Side of Love event to support the national "Black Lives Matter" movement in Lemon Grove, California on June 22nd from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m..

The movement is a rallying cry against police actions and a criminal justice system which results in extremely disproportionate acts of violence, incrimination and incarceration of Blacks in America. This event will also advocate that local law enforcement agencies such as the San Diego Sheriffs' Department stop conducting actions like Operation Lemon Drop which appear to target low income populations of color.

The rally will start at the northwest corner of Lemon Grove Avenue and Broadway.  At 5:30, local speakers will make short presentations regarding this movement in our region.

This is the second rally in East county sponsored by Summit Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in support of "Black Lives Matter."  Based in Santee, one of the slogans for this religious group is:

People of Open Minds,

Loving Hearts

and Helping Hands

advocating for ANY race over

advocating for ANY race over another is racism ... so says liberals, when i see #whitelivesmatter and no racists stand up to complain I might accept your premise. blacks kill whites at a much higher rate than the other way around. blacks kill blacks at a higher rate. blacks crime is not the result of some imagined white privilege or other liberal manure ...... ALL people are capable of racism .. deal with it , grow up and stop spreading anger and lies

Why do you think it is racism, Deserttrek,

to stand up for justice and equal treatment of a group that has been treated unfairly in many places?

You may want to read our story just posted, which found that 57% of the hate crimes here in San Diego County were racially motivated, and most of those targeted African-Americans.

So you're advocated people put their heads in the sand and say nothing?  How will things ever change for the better, if good people don't speak out against racism ?

racist

black lives do not matter any more or less than anybody else. pushing racism does harm and thats what rallies like this are , racist events designed to do harm

Dylann Roof and his shooting of 9 people in Church

I have read a number of comments by this "Deserttrek", and it seems to me that his kind of thinking is what contributed to the recent killings of nine people at a worship service in a Church in Charleston, South Carolina y this young and misguided white guy. In an earlier comment on a different but black related article, "Deserttrek" referred to the women in the "Million Moms March" in a negative way. Why he would choose to title his comment in this very needed and relevant column with "racist" belies his insensitivity. We all need to have a bit more compassion and love for each other. I am really concerned about the tone of the comments coming from this Deserttrek.
