Quiet Thoughts, by Jacqueline Carr (Creatspace, 2016, 60 pages)

Book Review by Dennis Moore

“There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or

the mirror that reflects it.”

- Edith Wharton -

February 13, 2017 (San Diego) - Jacqueline Carr, who has been a freelance contributor to the East County Magazine in San Diego – having written a review of New York Times Bestselling author Caitlin Rother’s book Naked Addiction, has now written her own book, Quiet Thoughts. This splendid and insightful book of poetry, is reflective of Carr’s background as an Adjunct Instructor at York College (CUNY), and literary enthusiast. She is also the author of another book on poetry, A Selected Few Just For You.

Typical of the poetic genius of the author is her title poem, Quiet Thoughts, which states:

My quiet thoughts are as plentiful as blossoms in the spring;

They speak to me every waking moment;

They are refreshingly welcoming;

They are alarmingly distracting;

They are pleasantly comforting;

They are positively embracing;

They are mine.

Another poem in this compilation of literary magic, which resonates with me, is The Human Heart, which states:

We Humans are strange folks;

We are loving;

We are devious;

We are kind;

We are wicked;

We are sympathizers;

We are empathizers;

Yet we start wars;

We wreak havoc on the powerless;

We take advantage of the poor;

We give more to the rich;

It’s a vicious cycle with us;

Why?

Because despite centuries on this beautiful planet;

and the many experiences of man;

The human heart still hasn’t changed.

Carr’s book of poetry resonates with me for so many reasons, and I am sure that it will also resonate with all those that love poetry. This is a book that I highly recommend.

Carr brings me back to Thoreau,

which is a good thing......from "Walden"...."I learned this, at least, by my experiment; that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours."

Another concise review by Mr. Moore, and the two selections posted are just samples of the carefully crafted poems in this collection. This collection also has great quotes by the author, as well as familiar scholars. Thank you Mr. Moore for giving my latest book your time as well as your well thought out review.
