August 11, 2017 (El Cajon) - The now closed Hometown Buffet building located at 390 west Main St. in El Cajon is currently being transformed into a brand new Golden Corral buffet restaurant.

As I write this article, construction is going on inside and out, giving the place a fresh new look and feel.

They should be open for all of us hungry customers very soon! Opening date is indicated to around August 27th.

Many of our readers may recall there was a very popular Golden Corral in El Cajon quite a few years ago located at East Main St. & North 2nd St. that closed. Soon they’ll be back in town.

I recall eating at the aforementioned Golden Corral restaurant where Walgreen’s is now located. Golden Corral has an extensive menu selection of all your favorite foods and desserts. The food was sumptuous, the dining atmosphere was great, staff members were very polite and the place was conveniently located.

I think the new location in downtown El Cajon should prove to be a very popular dining spot. Who doesn’t like a buffet of wonderful food selection to satiate one’s hunger?

original golden coral (do you remember?)

I've been waiting a very long time for Golden Corral to come back home to El Cajon after Golden Corral had quickly and strangely left town One day. My family and I were so saddened and the only way we could enjoy Golden Corral from then on was if we made a special trip out to Calapatria Which I always looked forward too because not only is their buffet top-quality..........(* way better than hometown buffet!), But you could also for $3 extra add a lobster tail to your buffet And I just thought that was the greatest thing in the world. why am i commenting on this article? I was just wondering if anybody else, remembers the last day Golden Corral was here in town long long ago. I would like to hear any one else's comments about this subject for my own curiosity. So if anybody else, remembers the events surrounding that last day or the days prior, please leave a comment. It was the strangest thing because my mom and I were actually there that day that they shut down and left town and believe me they didn't leave because there was a lack of customers there were plenty of them the place was always packed. I remember we were sitting near the middle in the Center we could see the employees and the whole place from where we were. All of the sudden the front doors swing open and in stomp these men dressed like they are from another restaurant. We see the tags on their shirts and lo and behold, it's hometown buffet and they looked p*****, very angry! We could not hear what they were saying to the manager and the employees at Golden Corral. But I just remember they sounded very irate and almost threatening to them. Next thing we know Golden corral shuts down! It's almost like Hometown buffet ran them out of town. At that time, we had no idea what hometown buffet was. it was brand new in town just like golden corral. So anyhow, I'm just happy that finally hometown buffet is finally getting its just desserts and that Golden Corral after All these years later is finally able to come back to it's rightful place here in El Cajon, where it should have been the whole entire time. Thank you very much.
