October 22, 2014 (Valencia, California) - Steve Springer, co-author of Laker Girl, with Jeanie Buss, the NBA Los Angeles Lakers President and Governor, will be one of 10 authors at the annual Barnes & Noble “Local Author Night” in Valencia, California on Friday, October 24th, 2014 at 7:00PM. This writer had the distinct pleasure and honor of writing a review of Springer’s book for the East County Magazine in San Diego several months ago. Steve Springer is a former sportswriter who spent 25 years at the Los Angeles Times. He is the author of 11 books, including four on the Los Angeles Lakers, and the coauthor of the New York Time bestseller American Son with Oscar De La Hoya. Another memorable book by Springer, and a keepsake, is 50th Anniversary: The Los Angeles Times Encyclopedia of the Lakers. This is a must have for all Lakers fans, me included.

This event, coordinated by Joelle Biegel, Community Business Development Manager for Barnes & Noble, comes just before the start of what promises to be an interesting new season for the Los Angeles Lakers, as it comes during the time of the impending retirement of one of its biggest stars of all time, Kobe Bryant.

In addition to Springer at this Local Author Night, Biegel has pulled out all the stops, as she also includes Former White House Chef Louis Eguaras and Dave Berg, former writer & co-producer of the Tonight Show, The Jay Leno Show, The O’Reilly Factor & NBC News. Local authors will meet and greet book lovers and sign their latest literature releases. See Press Release.

Author Event - Barnes and Nobel

The Author's Event had a great turn out! It was well worth the 8-hour road trip from Redding, Ca. to be there. It was wonderful to see people buying books, actually holding hard copies! I met other authors who generously shared publishing tips and experiences with me I found to be useful. Also, had the opportunity to meet Joelle Biegel, the event coordinator is a pleasant lady, very gracious when I handed her a packet that included information regarding STICKS and STONES and BROKEN BONES. We discussed the importance of hard copy, she indicated that people were buying more books. One trend is to buy an Ebook and a hard copy, Ebook for reading and the hard copy they keep untouched. A few authors and I clicked because of the content of information in my book on Transgenerational Trauma; The Last Enchanter author's, Laurisa White Reyes is taking a class studying Transgenerational Trauma and Purr Therapy author Kathy McCoy is a therapist, she could tell PTSD has been with me for a very long time. It was good to get out and see what is happening in the world of books, to be part of the publishing industry again. PTSD has spoiled many things for me, but not this event. It is an everyday challenge for many sufferers. If anything, I was driven by my passion to overcome all my fears, now that I am in print again and attend this function to help myself. I look forward to be included among others like me. It was a sociable time indeed! Linda Lee King (Newbie on the block!) Magic Johnson steps down as President of Basketball Operations

Earvin "Magic" Johnson in a surpring move stepped down as President of the Los Angeles Lakers, perhaps due to the team falling short of earlier expectations, despite landing LeBron James. Shortly thereafter, the Lakers and coach Luke Walton mutually agreed to part ways.

Author's Event

Hi Joelle! It was a great turn out. So many interesting authors I met. My boyfriend noticed cars were coming and going all evening! He was impressed, he thought for sure people were abandoning book stores. Also, thank you for accepting my packet. I am excited, just got off the phone with a reporter. Running a photo and book cover in local paper. Funny story, the reporter is from my hometown and worked for the local paper there! Yes, hometown will be hearing from me soon.
