June 11, 2019 (El Cajon) - The El Cajon Police Department will be hosting its 4th Annual Teen Academy beginning on June 17, 2018. The academy will run Monday through Friday for two weeks, concluding with a graduation ceremony on Friday, June 28, 2019. Classes will begin at 7:30 am every morning, and conclude at 3:30 pm every afternoon. There are a total of 27 teens in this year’s Teen Academy.

The El Cajon Police Department Teen Academy is an interactive “outreach” academy where teens learn about the El Cajon Police Department and how it operates on a daily basis to provide services to the community. This academy also serves to build a positive image of police by interacting with the teens on a fun, personal level. The attendees are local teens who are students within the Grossmont Union High School District. During the two-week program, they will learn about law enforcement related careers, such as police officers, police dispatchers, forensic lab technicians, records clerks, and property & evidence positions.

The academy includes demo days where the students will see demonstrations by the SWAT team and the K-9 unit, get hands-on experience at processing mock crime scenes, conduct emergency vehicle operations and much more. The Teen academy attendees also participate in a group community project and receive credit for community service hours.
