July 24, 2019 (Jamul) -- After 11 years, Jamul resident Debbie Case, President & CEO of Meals on Wheels San Diego County, has announced her retirement. December 31, 2019 will mark the end of Case leading one of the largest regional senior wellness programs for home-bound seniors in San Diego.

During her tenure, Case built a strong leadership team, staff, and volunteer base. Since being at the helm, she has taken the much beloved non-profit from financial insecurity to a financially strong and stable position. Her greatest legacy was securing a $4.5-million donation to ensure a future where Meals on Wheels could continue to serve San Diego seniors through the delivery of nutritious meals and daily well-being checks. This gift was the largest donation in the non-profit’s history. As the population ages in and ages up, elevating the demand for services, this donation came at just the right time.

She was awarded a sabbatical grant at the beginning of this year from the California Wellness Foundation which gave her the opportunity to allow her Board and Staff to step up their involvement and responsibilities. This leadership grant gave her confidence that the organization would be left in good hands.

“As my sabbatical proved, the team at Meals on Wheels is remarkable and will be able to support the transition into new leadership,” said Case. “The Board of Trustees is of the highest caliber and the best I have had the opportunity to work with. I am confident the next President & CEO will run with the torch that has been lit with new energy and ideas.”

A transition team is in place and will soon be looking for her successor. In the meantime, all will continue to move to fulfill the need to provide healthy meals and important daily wellness checks for San Diego’s home-bound seniors. Meals on Wheels San Diego County will share more updates soon.
