July 31, 2024 (San Diego's East County) -- August has some amazing events for summertime fun, including the Mt. Helix Food & Wine Festival,  a Dweezil Zappa concert at The Magnolia, Summer Jams at Santee Lakes, live music at Julian Heroes, outdoor concerts in El Cajon, sunset train rides at the historic Campo depot, a summer twilight walk at MIssion Trails Regional Park, and live music at Sycuan including LOCASH and the Jacksons.

DWEEZIL ZAPPA AT THE MAGNOLIA AUGUST 2

Dweezil Zappa brings the Rox(postrophy Tour to The Magnolia in El Cajon on Friday, August 2 at 7 p.m.

Dweezil Zappa is a composer, musician and actor, as well as son of legendary rocker Frank Zappa.  Tickets.

 

MT. HELIX FOOD & WINE FESTIVAL AUGUST 16-17

You’re invited to join the Mount Helix Park Association at the Mt. Helix Food & Wine Festival. The fun starts Friday night, August 16 with a “Flamingo Fling” sit-down dinner and swing dancing to live music by the Fly Boys, followed by the main festival on Saturday, August 17  at the Mt. Helix Park with the theme “Palm Springs Fling” featuring food and wine sampling, art, music and breathtaking views from atop Mt. Helix.

All proceeds benefit the Mt. Helix Park Foundation.

SUMMER JAMS AT SANTEE LAKES

Santee Lakes invites to its Summer Jams, performed on the deck at Lake 4. 

Ramona artist Ashley Norton will perform on Thursday, August 8, followed by Summer Breeze  on Friday, August 23 with songs reminiscent of Steely Dan, Hall and Oats, Yacht Rock and the ‘70s. Then on August 24, Haley Peterson wraps up the month’s music.  All concerts run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

LIVE MUSIC AT JULIAN HEROES

You can enjoy live music on Friday and Saturday nights throughout August at 6 p.m. at Julian Heroes Restaurant and Bar, 4355 California 78, Julian, 92036. 

Friday August 2 features Punkgrass, Saturday August 6 is Jump Start, Friday August 9 is Haywire, Saturday August 10 is Blue Largo, Friday August 16 are Lucky Strikes, Saturday August 17 is Soul Frenzi, Friday August 23 Carefree Highway, Saturday August 24 Jeff Berkley, Friday August 30 Enter the Blue Sky, and rounding it off Saturday August 31 Gimme Back my Wig.

DINNER AND A CONCERT FRIDAY NIGHTS IN DOWNTOWN EL CAJON

El Cajon’s Dinner and a Concert series continues each Friday night in August from 6 to 8 p.m. on the Prescott Promenade in downtown El Cajon.

The lineup features Stone Soul on August 2, Ronsatadt Revival on August 9: Ronstadt Revival, Trey Hill Band on August 16: The Heroes August 23, and on August 30, Billy Nation.

TRAIN RIDES AT THE HISTORIC CAMPO DEPOT

Pacific Southwest Railway Museum in Campo hosts rides aboard a historic train each Saturday in August at 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m. or 2:30 p.m.

You can relax while the San Diego countryside rolls by during a pleasant round trip train ride on the historic San Diego & Arizona Railway. The Golden State is the Museum’s classic weekend excursion. Depart from the Campo Depot for the approximately 45-minute ride after visiting the Museum’s gift shop and ticket office.

SUMMER TWILIGHT WALK AT MISSION TRAILS AUGUST 17

Join Mission Trails Regional Park trail guides for a special twilight summer walk on August 17 from 7 to 9  p.m.

Learn about the changes that occur at dusk as the sun goes down. Walks meet at the parking lot at the corner of Bushy Hill Drive and Father Junípero Serra Trail, across from Kumeyaay Lake Campground.

LOCASH AT THE RIVER AUGUST 22

LOCASH will perform live at Sycuan’s River venue on August 22 at 8 p.m., where you can enjoy the show poolside, or get a VIP cabana and float to savor the music.

Named country music’s “iconic feel good duo” by People Magazine, LOCASH artists Preston Brust and Chris Lucas are known for their chart-topping hits such as

 “I Love This Life”, “Feels Like a Party”, and “I Know Somebody.”

THE JACKSONS AT SYCUAN AUGUST 30

The Jacksons have been performing for 50 years, starting as the Jackson 5, vaulting to fame in Motown and launching Michael Jackson’s career. They’ve been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Recording Academy’s Grammy Hall of Fame. Now the Jacksons are coming to Sycuan’s Heritage Event Center for a performance on August 30th at  8 p.m.
