April 3, 2022 (Mt. Helix) – Live music returns to Mt. Helix Park on Saturday, May 28 at 8 p.m. with a candlelight open air pop concert on strings.  A talented string quartet will take you on a musical journey through the ages, performing pop songs on classical instruments while you savor the stunning outdoor backdrop in a memorable experience.

February 8, 2018 (Mt. Helix) -- Art in the Park camp is being offered for the sixth season by Art Smarts, Inc. at Mt. Helix Park starting Monday, March 26 and running through Friday, March 30 from 9 a.m. until noon each day. You’re invited to treat your kids to a creative outdoor experience at the historic Mt. Helix Park and Amphitheater.

LA MESA - MT. HELIX OCTOBER ACTIVITIES

October 1, 2015 (La Mesa) – Fall is in the air. Residents have a wealth of options this month with two large festivals, the annual Oktoberfest in the Village, and a new FalFest at Grossmont Center, as well as the annual Intergenerational Games. Local churches are offering a Blessing of Animals and a Fair Trade Gift Fair to sooth the soul, and entertainment opportunities include Halloween activities at Grossmont Center, a school vacation art camp at Mt. Helix, a new mystery at Lamplighters Community, and many clubs at the La Mesa Library. Let’s not overlook the opportunity to give back to our wonderful hometown at the annual Park Appreciation Day and the Human Advisory Commission’s Food Drive!

The final performances of the theater and concert season are joined by a variety of classes for every interest, a health fair, a craft fair, e-waste recycling, and outdoor nature and recreation activities galore.

LA MESA - MT. HELIX AUGUST ACTIVITIES

August 1, 2015 (La Mesa) – What a vibrant community we live in! August boasts five free concerts, three free movie screenings, two theater productions, the annual Helix High All Class Picnic, and the annual heART of Mt. Helix. There are free clubs for every age and interest at the La Mesa Library, a broad range of activities at the La Mesa Adult Enrichment Center, and a number of classes at the La Mesa Community Center start in August. For those who love nature there are a number of activities as Mission Trails Regional Park and the Water Conservation Garden, and for the fitness oriented there are several walking groups, aquatics, and even a boot camp. Get out and find your bliss, and while you’re at it meet your neighbors.

THE EIGHTH ANNUAL heART OF MT. HELIX – TICKETS ON SALE AND MASTER OF CEREMONIES ANNOUNCED

Tickets are on sale for the Eighth Annual heART of Mt. Helix held at East County’s most recognizable landmark, the memorial cross and historic amphitheater atop Mt. Helix. The Park is pleased to announce Tom Karlo, KPBS General Manager, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies for this Park fundraiser.

The sunset event will be held on August 15 from 5:30 pm to 10:00 pm and will feature vignettes by local performing and visual artists. After enjoying the 360 degree view and listening to two stages of local musicians perform, guests can dance under the stars to the Mighty Untouchables, a well known San Diego band. Mt. Helix painters Nora Clemens, Debi Nicols, Roz Oserin, Penelope Quirk, and Wood Turner Sally Ault will each be demonstrating their technique to showcase the variety of visual arts talent in East County.

SUNRISE EASTER SERVICES ATOP MT. HELIX CELEBRATES 90 YEARS

Friday, April 3, 2015 (La Mesa) -- Making literal the Easter message of a new day for 90 years now, Easter Sunrise services will be held again on Sunday, April 5 at 6:30 a.m. in the Mt. Helix Park amphitheater, where early birds can start their holiday celebration amidst the splendor of the Park's awe inspiring 360˚ view.

SPRING BREAK ART CAMP ON MT. HELIX

 

March 17, 2016 (Mt. Helix)-- Following a successful fall run, Art Smarts and Mt. Helix Park are partnering up again this spring to bring a one-of-a-kind kids’ art camp to East County. From March 30 through April 3, Art Smarts, which hosts after-school art programs throughout San Diego, will be offering Art In The Park - at Mt. Helix Park for kids ages 5 to 12.

SIXTH ANNUAL heART OF MT. HELIX AUGUST 17

August 7, 2013 (La Mesa) – The Sixth Annual heART of Mt. Helix will take place on August 17, from 5:30 – 10 p.m. at Mt. Helix Park.  The event is a fundraiser to benefit the Park and will feature restaurant tastings, live music, visual arts demonstrations, and silent and live auctions.

Musical guests include Jan Conner Trio, Lillian Palmer, David Maldonado and headliner – The Untouchables. The food & beverage tastings include Alchemy, Anthony’s Fish Grotto, Ballast Point, Grove Pastry Shop and many more.

FREE CARNATIONS FOR MOMS ON MT. HELIX

 

May 7, 2010 (Mt. Helix) –This Sunday, docents at Mt. Helix Park will give free carnations to the first 36 mothers who visit the park starting at 10:30 a.m.

“Mt. Helix Park is actually a memorial to Mary Yawkey. Mrs. Yawkey had loved the peace and natural beauty of Mt. Helix so her children, Mary Yawkey White and Cyrus Yawkey, created a memorial park and amphitheater with the support of land owner Ed Fletcher,” said Tracey Stotz, executive director of the Mt. Helix Park Foundation. “The memorial park opened in the 1920s and here we are in 2010 still enjoying this lovely facility."
