July 1, 2015 (La Mesa) – There is a lot of free summer entertainment in La Mesa this month, including concerts in the park, a movie under the stars, community theater and a walking club, not to mention a host of club activities for all ages and interests at the library.

Connect La Mesa

Explore La Mesa’s urban trail system the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. July 8 the walk begins at Jackson Park (5870 Jackson Drive) at 9:00 a.m. for an intermediate route, approximately 2.4 miles, and on July 22 the walk begins at 6:00 p.m. at West Coast BBQ (6126 Lake Murray Blvd.) for a route of 2.6 miles. Both walks are listed as intermediate, with slight elevation changes.

Movie Night Under the Stars

This annual city free event for families will be on Friday, July 24, at La Mesita Park (8855 Dallas Street. Pre-show entertainment beings at 7:30 pm, and ). Despicable Me 2 (rated PG) will start at 8:00 pm. The movie will be shown on a 25’ x 14’ screen.  Bring your lawn chair, spread out a blanket, sit back and enjoy! 

Sundays At Six Summer Concerts

Bring a picnic and blankets or chairs to the amphitheater Harry Griffen Park for this free public concert series. The music begins at 6 p.m. The line up this month is July 12 Breez’n (Jazz), July 19 Stoney B Blues Band, and July 26 Fanny and the Atta Boys (Folk/Swing).

Christian Community Theater San Diego

CCT celebrates its 35th anniversary at the beautiful Mt. Helix Park amphitheater with this summer's production of Mary Poppins.  Enjoy an evening with everyone's favorite nanny from July 9 through August 2.  For more information and to purchase tickets visit their website at 

La Mesa Chamber Mixer at Anthony’s

Movies Under the Moonlight

Grossmont Center presents a a free family-friendly movie night series, so bring a comfy chair and find a space in the courtyard; movies begin at dusk, around 7:30-8:00 p.m. The movies this month are Madagascar on July 17, and The Sandlot on July 31.

  • Monday - Lego and Scrabble Clubs.
  • Tuesday - Silver Sneaker Yoga, Baby Lapsit, Ebook Tutoring and Bilingual Storytime.
  • Wednesday - Chess Club, Knitting Club, Ebook Tutoring and PJ Storytime.
  • Thursday - Preschool and Teen activities.
  • Friday - Toddler Storytimes.
  • Saturday - Introductory Computer Classes.

Grossmont Center Mall Walkers Program - Saturdays

There are three routes to choose from, ranging from 0.5 miles to 1.42 miles, so you can join in at any level you feel comfortable with. Power Yoga at Mt. Helix Park

Classes held on Monday, Wednesday or Friday morning at 9 am taught by long-time instructor Rose Walters. The Yoga class is a drop-in donation based class for all levels so no registration is required.
