EAST COUNTY DEMOCRATS HOST "BIG BLUE BBQ" ROUNDUP AUGUST 28 WITH BEATLES MUSIC AND MORE

August 24, 2011 (San Diego's East County)--Local Democrats are rounding up voters, volunteers, elected officials, candidates and prospective candidates for local, state and federal offices for the Big Blue East County BBQ Roundup this Sunday, August 28.

The Baja Bugs (view video of performance) will perform live Beatles music at the event, which will be held from 12-4 p.m. at Sweetwater Regional Park Summit in the pavillion.

"Republicans support the rich and leave table scraps for everyone else to trickle down; Democrats don't," said Chris Pearson, the party's East County regional chair. "Democrats believe that everyone deserves a seat at the table and everyone has a voice." 

County Democratic Party Chairman Jess Durfee will be grill master. In addition to meeting candidates and officials, guests can enjoy hiking trails, horse trails, a tot lot, face painting, Bocce ball, and a water park.

Sweetwater Regional Park is located at 3218 Summit Meadow Road in Bonita.

A BBQ lunch includes grilled burgers, hot dogs and garden burgers, potato and green salads, cole slaw, two beverage tickts for wine, beer or soft drinks, and “All American” apple pie with vanilla ice cream for dessert.

Pearson outlined what Democrats stand for, and why he believes East County residents should turn out in support: "Democrats want a seat at the table for the Middle Class and everyone else. We want a voice to save Social Security. We want a voice to award work with just compensation.  We want a voice to improve collective bargaining; prevailing wage and minimum wage," he said, adding that the party also supports "healthcare for all, support for anyone who'se been dealt a short hand in life, and finally: We want an end to discrimination and intolerance."
