May 7, 2023 (San Diego) - The Dodgers and Padres have played an intense series, as always. Today, both teams looked to win the series. Julio Urias started for L.A. against Grossmont High alum Joe Musgrove.
After a leadoff double by Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado hit a liner to center to drive him home. Xander Bogaerts hit a long ball to right that Mookie Betts couldn’t catch, allowing Machado to score and the Padres led 2-0 after one.
Will Smith put the Dodgers on the board in the sixth with a double that scored Freddie Freeman and it looked like the Padres were going to survive and take the series, but Mookie Betts blasted a solo homer in the ninth with two outs to left to tie the game and sent us to extras.
In the 10th, Michael Busch hit a line drive RBI single to left to score Freeman James Outman blasted a two-run homer to right and the Dodgers stole the series from the Padres with a 5-2 win.
UP NEXT
The Padres get a day off tomorrow before traveling to the Twin Cities for three games against the Twins. Game one on Tuesday is at 4:40 p.m. Michael Wacha starts against Louie Varland for Minnesota.
