July 27, 2018 (San Diego) - After a few early games against NL East teams, the Padres returned home to the NL West to face the Diamondbacks.  Zack Greinke started for Arizona against Luis Perdomo.

The Padres tallied first.  Manuel Margot hit a towering home run to left to the second floor of the Western Metal Supply Co. building in the second inning to give the Padres a 1-0 lead.

But the Dbacks tied it up in the third with former Padre Jon Jay’s single up the middle that scored Jeff Mathis.  A.J. Pollock lined a double to left with runners on first and second to score Jay to give the Dbacks the lead.  Steven Souza Jr.  lined a grounder down the third-base line into left field to score two.  Ketel Marte blasted a long ball to right center that looked like it’d be a three-run homer, but it fell short.  Marte still got a double and an RBI in Souza Jr.  Nick Ahmed lined it into right and yet another run came home in Daniel Descalso.  This caused Andy Green to finally wake up and pull Perdomo.  Robbie Erlin took his place and stopped the bleeding, but six runs gave the Dbacks a 6-1 lead.

Austin Hedges tried to start a rally in the eighth with his sixth home run of the season--a blast to left center, but the rally was stopped short and the Dbacks took game one 6-2.

Game two tomorrow night is at 5:40 p.m.  Patrick Corbin will start for Arizona against Tyson Ross.
