June 29, 2023 (Pittsburgh) - This morning’s game was just an exhibition game since the Padres lost the series with the Pirates.  Grossmont High alum Joe Musgrove started against Luis Ortiz for the Bucs.

The Padres finally got the ball rolling first.  Ha-Seong Kim hit a sac fly to left in the first and Trent Grisham followed it up with a two-run blast to right and the Padres led 3-0 after one.

Ha-Seong Kim homered to left in the fourth, but the Pirates got on the board in the home half with a sac fly by Nick Gonzalez that scored Henry Davis, but Musgrove stopped the bleeding and the Padres led 4-1 after four.

Davis singled in the sixth to score Andrew McCutchen and the Padres’ lead was cut to a half, 4-2 after six.

Classic Padres’ing blew the lead in the seventh.  Tim Hill lazily threw a ball past first, allowing Jack Suwinski to reach and two runners to score and tie the game.  Davis hit a line drive to right to score Suwinski and the Buccos came behind to get the sweep with a 5-4 win.
