ECM PADRES REPORT: DBACKS SNAG SERIES IN DESERT

August 13, 2023 (Phoenix) - The Padres and Diamondbacks went for the series today.  Seth Lugo started against Brandon Pfaadt for Arizona.

Fernando Tatis Jr. singled in the first to score Ha-Seong Kim.  Manny Machado doubled to score him.  Jake Cronenworth singled to score Machado.  Ketel Marte singled to score Corbin Carroll and the Padres led 3-1 after one.

 
Geraldo Perdomo narrowed the gap to one with a solo homer in the fifth and the Padres led 3-2 after five.
 
Cronenworth added on with a ground ball double to left that scored Machado in the seventh, but on one swing of the bat by Lourdes Gurriel Jr. in the home half, we were tied; he blasted a two-run homer to left and we were tied at four after seven.
 
Alek Thomas hit a sac fly in the eighth to score Christian Walker and the Dbacks took the series with a 5-4 win.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Padres come back home for some more interleague play, hosting the Orioles.  Game one on Monday is at 6:40 p.m.  Grayson Rodriguez starts for Baltimore against a pitcher to be named.
