ECM PADRES REPORT: DBACKS SWEEP DOUBLEHEADER, TAKE SERIES

August 19, 2023 (San Diego) - Due to Hurricane Hilary, the Padres and Diamondbacks played a doubleheader today to finish up their series.  

Game three
 
Merrill Kelly started game three for the Dbacks against Matt Waldron.
 
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. singled to score Corbin Carroll and Alek Thomas singled to score Christian Walker in the first, but Ha-Seong Kim hit a solo homer in the bottom of the inning and so did Manny Machado and we were tied at two after one.
 
Walker added a single in the third on a sac groundout that scored Tommy Pham and the Dbacks led 3-2 after three.
 
Pham hit a two-run homer in the fifth after Matt Carpenter tied the game in the fourth with an RBI single and Arizona led 5-3 after five.
 
Geraldo Perdomo hit a sac fly in the sixth to score Thomas and the Dbacks led 6-3 after six.
 
Manny Machado tried with a solo homer in the eighth, but the Snakes held strong and took game three 6-4.
 
Game four
 
Scott McGough started game four for Arizona against Yu Darvish.
 
Two runs scored in the second and the Dbacks led 2-0 after two.
 
Walker singled in the fifth to score Carroll, but Xander Bogaerts got the Padres on the board in the home half with a solo homer and Arizona led 3-1 after five.
 
Carroll singled in the sixth to score Thomas and Gabriel Moreno blew the game open with a grand slam in the seventh and the Dbacks took the series with an 8-1 win.
 
UP NEXT
 
With tomorrow off, the Padres host the Marlins starting on Monday.  Game one is at 6:40 p.m.
