September 27, 2017 (Los Angeles) - At this point, we at ECM wouldn’t want to try anymore, either. The season finale with the Dodgers was tonight and the Padres were probably on their knees kissing the ground they walk on. Clayton Richard started against Rich Hill for LA.
Like we said, why try? Because Cody Bellinger hit a sac fly in the first. Corey Seager scored on a fielder’s choice and the Dodgers took a 2-0 lead early.
Rich Hill worked pitcher magic in the second with an RBI single--his whopping fifth hit of the year--to put the Dodgers up 3-0.
The Dodgers struck again in the third, marking the second consecutive night they’ve scored in consecutive innings. Logan Forsythe singled to left. The ball was bobbled by Jabari Blash, allowing Justin Turner to score. Austin Barnes hit a two-RBI double. Yasiel Puig hit an RBI single. Four runs gave the Dodgers a 7-0 lead.
And of course, Puig added a solo blast in the fifth for the Dodgers to go up 8-0.
And Curtis Granderson decided to go deep in the sixth. Seager hit one too and the Dodgers hit back-to-back homers in the sixth to steal the season series from the Padres in a flourish of runs, winning 10-0 and getting the sweep.
The Padres end their season in the Bay Area over the weekend with a team that’s just as miserable as them. What lovely bedfellows. First pitch in San Francisco is at 7:15 p.m. Jordan Lyles starts against Chris Stratton for the Giants.
