May 27, 2018 (Los Angeles) - The Padres have split the series with the Dodgers so far and today, they tried to take it with Walker Buehler on the mound for L.A. against Matt Strahm.

Strahm was pulled out for Adam Cimber in the third.  One of those “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” pitching changes because Cimber proceeded to give up three straight hits to the Dodgers, including an RBI single to left by Enrique Hernandez and a sac double play by Justin Turner that Chris Taylor snuck home on to give the Dodgers a 2-0 lead.

The Padres got on the board in the fifth with Raffi Lopez’s long sac fly to left to score Freddy Galvis to cut the lead in half 2-1.

Max Muncy added one more with a blast to right field for his sixth home run of the season, good for two runs.  Cody Bellinger launched another two-run homer right over Travis Jankowski’s jump in center field to give the Dodgers the big 6-1 win to take the series 2-1.

The Padres come back home and begin the series against the Marlins with a Memorial Day matinee at 1:10 p.m.  Caleb Smith takes the mound for Miami against Kyle Lauer.

Transaction news:

  • Padres acquire Phil Hughes, cash and No. 74 pick in this year’s draft for catcher Janigson Villalobos.
