ECM PADRES REPORT: DODGERS STUN PADRES IN FIRST MEETING

February 27, 2023 (Peoria, Ariz.) - The Padres got their first look at the Dodgers today.  Ryan Pepiot started for L.A. against Nabil Crismatt.

Brandon Dixon started the scoring in the second with a sac fly that scored Ha-Seong Kim and the Padres led 1-0 after two.

 

Will Smith tied the game in the third with a single that scored Mookie Betts and we were tied at one after three.

 

The Dodgers then took the lead on Luke Williams’ solo homer in the fourth and L.A. led 2-1 after four.

 

Devin Mann singled in the sixth to score Jorbit Vivas and the Dodgers led 3-1 after six.

 

The Padres fought back in the seventh.  Dixon doubled to score Brett Sullivan and Dixon scored on a wild pitch and we were tied at three after seven.

 

The Padres reclaimed the lead in the eighth with a single from Sullivan that scored Rangel Ravelo and the Padres led 4-3 after eight.

 

But it didn’t last long.  James Outman grounded into a double play in the ninth that scored Brandon Lewis.  Ryan Ward singled to score Jahmai Jones.  Vivas doubled to score two.  Luis Liberato and Alfonso Rivas scored in the home half of the ninth, but the Dodgers stunned the Padres in their first meeting of 2023 with a 7-6 win.

The Pads go to Scottsdale to see the Giants for the first time.  First pitch is at 12:05 p.m. and the game is only available on mlb.com radio. Jay Groome starts against for Alex Cobb San Francisco.
